Description
Piemon, also known as Piedmon, is a Mega-level Digimon of the Demon Man, or Wizard, type, appearing as the final member and leader of the Dark Masters in the anime Digimon Adventure. His design is modeled after jesters, the Pierrot figure, and the mythological Paimon, and he dresses in vivid, multicolored clothing with a mask that hides most of his face and four swords stored in a box on his back. He is described as a strange-looking, elusive being whose origins, true form, and purpose are shrouded in mystery, with official profiles noting that encountering him leaves little to do but curse one's fate.
His personality is theatrical, deceptive, and cruel. He delights in toying with his opponents and uses disguises and illusions to manipulate them, first appearing to the returning Chosen Children disguised as a harmless clown before revealing his true nature. As the leader of the Dark Masters, he is calculating and confident in his overwhelming strength, and he treats battle as a kind of performance or game. The Dark Masters, of whom Piemon is the head, are the group that sealed the Four Holy Beasts and reshaped the Digital World into Spiral Mountain, taking control through fear and force. They are also extensions of the greater villain Apocalymon, who granted them their power. Piemon's role in the story is to serve as the final obstacle before that true enemy is revealed. When the Chosen Children return to the Digital World, it is Piemon who first confronts them, sending them down a hole and introducing the other Dark Masters, MetalSeadramon, Puppetmon, and Machinedramon. He later demonstrates his dominance by using Trump Sword to effortlessly defeat WarGreymon and MetalGarurumon, and he is responsible for the deaths of Chuumon and Piccolomon.
Throughout the final arc, Piemon watches from the top of Spiral Mountain as his three comrades are defeated one by one, remaining confident that his own power will prevail. In the climactic battle, he overwhelms the Chosen Children and their partner Digimon, destroying armor that even Chrome Digizoid could not normally break and using his magic to transform several of them into keychains. When only Takeru and Hikari remain, his attack on them triggers Takeru's crest of hope, allowing HolyAngemon to evolve into MagnaAngemon. MagnaAngemon's Holy Disinfection restores the transformed children, and the combined assault of WarGreymon and MetalGarurumon blasts Piemon into MagnaAngemon's Heaven's Gate, sealing him forever in an inescapable subspace and ending the Dark Masters.
