Description
Pixie is a supporting character in the anime Monster Rancher who begins the story as one of Moo's Big Bad Four, the elite commanders who serve the evil overlord Moo. She is depicted as the least highly ranked among the four, yet she is formidable in her own right. In her early role she carries a personal vendetta against humans and takes delight in capturing towns and turning their inhabitants into slaves, commanding groups of dark monsters in attacks against the heroes.
She appears as a slim young woman who looks to be in her early twenties, with red hair, a pair of leathery wings, two silver horns jutting from her head, and a long whip-like tail that ends in a small spike. Her usual clothing is a reddish-pink bikini-like outfit, and her overall design is based on the pure-bred Pixie monster type from the Monster Rancher video games.
Pixie is one of the most physically powerful characters in the series. She possesses seemingly superhuman strength and speed, can fly, and is able to generate massive energy surges and walls of fire. Among her signature abilities are Flame Wall, a defensive barrier of fire; Torpedo, which conjures a ball of lightning; and Lightning, which strikes opponents with bolts of electricity.
Her personality is layered. Early on she is hostile, proud, and fiercely loyal to Moo, and she shows a cruel streak in her treatment of humans. Her disposition is generally described as ranging from quiet and shrewd to level-headed and mature, and like her monster breed she can be disobedient and willful, yet she proves capable of becoming a powerful ally once her loyalties change.
Her defining development comes when Genki confronts her and opens her eyes to the truth of Moo's evil. Realizing that she has been serving a corrupt master, she abandons Moo and turns against him, becoming an ally to Genki and his friends. She takes on a semi-regular role in the story from that point, helping the group time and again throughout their struggle. She forms a particularly meaningful bond with Genki, whose influence changes her path, and with the monster Big Blue, a devoted follower who remains loyal to her. Her relationships with her former fellow commanders are defined by her decisive break from their shared cause.
Pixie's arc reaches a dramatic turning point when she is mortally injured in battle against Moo. In an act of sacrifice, Big Blue gives his life to heal her, and she is reborn as Granity. In this transformed state she takes on an almost angelic appearance, with feathery wings, green hair, and stone battle armor replacing her earlier look. As Granity she carries forward the strength, maturity, and resolve she developed over the course of the series.
