Description
Moori is a Namekian elder who originally served as the leader of a village on Planet Namek. He is a member of the Dragon Clan, a subset of Namekians with innate magical abilities, and he is one of the seven elders who each guard one of the Namekian Dragon Balls. Moori is the son of Grand Elder Guru, making him the brother of several other notable Namekians including Dende, Nail, Tsuno, Cargo, and Esca. He has dark green skin and typically wears a red vest over a white collar and white pants.
Moori is defined by his intelligence, strategic thinking, and quiet courage. Although he is not a powerful warrior in terms of raw combat strength, he demonstrates remarkable cleverness and resourcefulness. He possesses a strong sense of duty to his people and is willing to risk his own life to protect them. His primary motivation is the preservation and safety of the Namekian race, its traditions, and the sacred Dragon Balls.
During the Frieza Saga, Moori shows his tactical mind by destroying all of Frieza's scouters using his Finger Beam attack. This act delays Frieza's search for the Dragon Balls and protects other Namekian villages from easy detection. When Frieza's forces close in on him, Moori attempts to bargain with the tyrant in exchange for the safety of his sons, but he ultimately refuses to surrender his village's Dragon Ball despite the threat of death. Frieza orders his execution, and Dodoria kills Moori by breaking his neck. He is later resurrected by the Earth's Dragon Balls as part of a wish.
After his revival, Moori is present when Grand Elder Guru passes away again. Before dying, Guru names Moori as his successor to become the new Grand Elder of the Namekian people, a role that makes him the spiritual leader and the living link to the Namekian Dragon Balls. Moori leads the surviving Namekians to a new home, New Namek, a planet discovered by King Kai that closely resembles their original world. Under his leadership, the Namekian civilization is rebuilt as a more unified community.
In his role as Grand Elder, Moori becomes the sole guardian of the Namekian Dragon Balls and the dragon Porunga. He maintains a strong relationship with Earth's protectors, allowing them to use the Dragon Balls during times of universal crisis. When Goku seeks a new guardian for Earth after Kami merges with Piccolo, Moori recommends Dende for the position. During the Cell Games, he and his people sense the immense power of Super Perfect Cell from across the galaxy. His most significant contribution comes during the Majin Buu Saga, when he uses his magical abilities to upgrade Porunga, removing the limitation that only one person could be revived per wish. This enhancement allows the Earth and its entire population to be restored, which is essential for the completion of the Spirit Bomb used to defeat Kid Buu.
Moori also appears in the film The Return of Cooler, where he and his fellow Namekians are enslaved by Cooler's mechanical forces. He is eventually freed by the Z Fighters. In Dragon Ball Super, he continues to serve as Grand Elder of New Namek, again facing threats such as the invasion of the wizard Moro.
Moori's notable abilities are rooted in his membership in the Dragon Clan. He can use the Finger Beam, a basic energy attack fired from the index finger. He possesses the power of Magic Materialization, allowing him to create objects from nothing, which includes the ability to create new Dragon Balls. As Grand Elder, he has the magical capacity to maintain and empower the Namekian Dragon Balls, as demonstrated when he enhanced Porunga's power. His leadership is characterized by wisdom and a strategic focus on the collective safety of his people rather than individual combat prowess.
