Description
Princess Abi, also known as Abi-hime, is a significant antagonist encountered during the final narrative arc concerning the Shikon Jewel. She is a powerful bird demon and a daiyōkai who commands vast flocks of phoenix-like demon birds capable of draining human blood. Her domain is a mountain nest she shares with her mother, Tekkei, an even more colossal bird demon who is connected to the gateway of the Netherworld.

Abi's primary motivation is the salvation of her mother. Tekkei has been poisoned after consuming a poisonous demon, and Abi learns that the venom can be diluted using human blood. This desperate need drives her ruthless actions, as she unleashes her hordes upon villages to slaughter innocent people and harvest their blood, showing no regard for human life in her quest to heal her mother. This devotion to her parent is her most defining characteristic, revealing a layer of familial loyalty beneath her cruel exterior.

In terms of personality, Abi is domineering, aggressive, and immensely proud of her status as a full demon. She harbors a deep disdain for hanyō, or half-demons, viewing them as inferior beings. This prejudice is a source of frustration when she becomes entangled in the conflict between Inuyasha and Naraku, as she resents being dragged into a fight between two hanyō. Despite her arrogance, she is not naive; she is wary of Naraku from their first encounter, recognizing his manipulative nature and viewing him as an arrogant fool, but she reluctantly accepts his assistance out of necessity.

Abi's role in the story is that of a temporary and unwitting pawn for the main villain, Naraku. He approaches her with a proposal: he will help her collect vast quantities of human blood in exchange for her mother creating a path to the Netherworld for him. To solidify their alliance, Naraku provides her with a powerful three-pronged trident made from his own bones and a hive of his Saimyōshō insects. This trident significantly boosts Abi's abilities, granting her a powerful barrier capable of deflecting Inuyasha's Wind Scar and the ability to wield Naraku's miasma.

Her key relationships are defined by this alliance and her filial duty. Her relationship with Naraku is purely transactional and fraught with mutual distrust. She uses his power to further her own goal, while he uses her to reach the Netherworld. Her relationship with Inuyasha and his group is one of direct conflict. She battles Inuyasha multiple times, and her trident makes her a formidable opponent who can counter his most powerful techniques, leading to a series of stalemates. However, her most significant relationship is with her mother, Tekkei, who serves as both her motivation and, ultimately, a vulnerability.

Throughout her appearance, Abi demonstrates several notable abilities. As a bird demon, she has the power of flight, often with flames trailing from her feet. She is a skilled pyrokinetic, able to launch powerful streams and balls of fire from her hands and even set her own demon birds ablaze. She can transform in battle, her hands becoming sharp talons and her eyes turning red, which greatly enhances her demonic power and ferocity. Her control over her massive flock of blood-sucking birds is another key ability, using them as an extension of her will to attack villages and collect the blood she needs.

Abi's development is not one of redemption but of growing awareness. She initially believes she can use Naraku for her own purposes, but she gradually realizes she is being manipulated. Eventually, once her mother is healed, Abi decides to betray Naraku and attacks a castle to uncover his plans, severing their alliance. This decision leads to the final confrontation at her mountain nest. In a brutal turn of events, Naraku reveals he had already infested Tekkei from within. He emerges from the giant bird, killing her. In a blind rage, Abi attacks Naraku to avenge her mother, but he effortlessly destroys the trident, taking her right arm with it, and then fatally stabs her, causing her to disintegrate into black dust. Her death serves as a grim reminder of Naraku's cruelty and his willingness to discard any ally once they have served his purpose.
