Description
Marian Lancaster is the female protagonist of the 1990 to 1992 anime series Robin Hood no Daibouken, also known as The Great Adventures of Robin Hood. She is a young noblewoman descended from the Lancaster family, a lineage that makes her a target for the greedy Bishop Hereford, who seeks to adopt her to strengthen his own power. Her most prized possession is a golden crucifix that serves as a symbol of her family. At the beginning of the story, Marian is essentially a damsel in distress, caught in the schemes of the bishop and awaiting rescue. She initially appears as a long-haired, refined noble lady, but as the series progresses, she shows great courage and a strong sense of justice. Her primary motivation is to escape the bishop's control and live a life of freedom, which leads her to join Robin and his band in Sherwood Forest. Along the way, she becomes romantically involved with Robin, and their relationship develops into a deep partnership. Marian undergoes significant character growth: she sheds her passive role and learns to defend herself, eventually taking up a sword and becoming a capable fighter. This transformation is symbolized by a change in appearance, as she adopts shorter hair and practical clothing. Her abilities include swordsmanship and a growing self‑reliance. In the forest, she also takes on domestic duties, helping to maintain the camp. Throughout the adventure, Marian evolves from a helpless noblewoman into a brave outlaw who stands beside Robin as an equal.
