Description
Eiko Magami, often called A-ko by her friends and classmates, is the central figure of her story. She is a sixteen-year-old transfer student at Graviton High School, though her age is presented as nineteen in the alternate continuity of A-ko the Versus. Physically, she is an attractive girl with an athletic build, standing five feet four inches tall, with thick, distinctive red hair that falls past her shoulders. Her most iconic outfit, which also serves as her de facto super-powered battle uniform, is her former school's sailor-style uniform. This consists of a white middy blouse with a sailor collar, a red scarf, black armbands, a blue pleated skirt, knee-high white socks, and a pair of very shiny black Mary Jane shoes.

A-ko's personality is a blend of cheerful friendliness and a formidable temper. She is generally very friendly, cute, and polite, and she genuinely desires to lead a normal life despite her extraordinary circumstances. However, beneath this pleasant exterior lies a fiery and dangerous temper that emerges when she is provoked. She also exhibits typical teenage traits, including a large appetite, a tendency to oversleep on school days, and a keen interest in fashion and romance. Her central motivation throughout the series is to experience a perfect, ordinary summer, which for her includes the chance to meet a cute boy. This longing for normalcy is a constant driving force, even as she is repeatedly drawn into chaotic conflicts.

Her role in the story is defined by her relationships, most significantly with her childhood friend, Shiiko Kotobuki, known as C-ko. A-ko and C-ko have been inseparable since kindergarten. While A-ko can sometimes become frustrated with C-ko's childish and demanding nature, she possesses a fierce, deep-seated love for her and is unwaveringly protective of her. This bond is the emotional core of the narrative, driving many of her actions across different storylines. Her other major relationship is her rivalry with Biko Daitokuji, or B-ko. B-ko is a classmate who is also infatuated with C-ko and possesses a vast arsenal of advanced technology, which she uses to constantly challenge and attack A-ko. This rivalry, often disruptive to her quest for a normal life, is a primary source of conflict. In later films like Project A-ko 3: Cinderella Rhapsody, A-ko's focus shifts to romance, leading her to pursue a boy named Kei, which puts her in direct competition with B-ko and even causes her to briefly neglect C-ko. The rivalry is so intense that the city's defense force reportedly created a special detachment specifically to contain the destruction caused by their fights.

A-ko's most defining trait is her suite of superhuman abilities, which she largely inherited from her unique lineage, implied to be the daughter of figures resembling Superman and Wonder Woman. She possesses immense superhuman strength, enough to wreck power armor, robots, and tanks with her bare hands, and she can hurl an M1 Abrams tank a fair distance. Her speed is equally impressive; she can outrun cars, move at hypersonic speeds, and leave a trail of destruction, including shredded pavement and collapsed walls, in her wake. She is also highly durable, being nigh-invulnerable to conventional damage such as missile fire and being smashed through walls, though she remains vulnerable to sharp, piercing weapons like swords. To control her potentially catastrophic power, she constantly wears a pair of black magical forearm bracers that act as power limiters. The "bon bons" on her socks, said to be made of uranium, and her shiny black shoes, which enhance her speed and jumping, also help regulate her abilities. If she removes these limiters, her strength becomes uncontrollable, and even a simple flick of her wrist can carve fissures in the ground or level large structures. By the events of Project A-ko 4: Final, her sailor uniform can also enable her to breathe in outer space.

Over the course of the series, A-ko shows some development, particularly in her understanding of her relationships. While she begins with a simple desire for a boyfriend and a normal summer, she ultimately reaffirms the importance of her bond with C-ko, sacrificing her romantic aspirations when she realizes Kei's true affections lie with her friend. In the alternate continuity of A-ko the Versus, she is depicted at age nineteen as a bounty hunter on a desert planet, partnered with her former rival B-ko. In this version, their relationship has evolved into a vitriolic but cooperative partnership, and she wields a sword capable of harming intangible beings, showing a different facet of her character honed by a harsher environment.
