TV-Series
Description
King is a small white lion cub who serves as the constant companion to the main character, Nadia. He is immediately recognizable by the red bandana or scarf he wears around his neck and a ring on his tail. At the beginning of the story, King is very small and lanky for a lion cub, though he eventually grows to the size of a regular adult lion.
King is deeply attached to his mistress, Nadia, and acts as her loyal protector and closest friend. His personality is marked by a strong sense of jealousy, particularly when Nadia grows closer to the young inventor Jean. He often becomes territorial and possessive, seeking to maintain his place as the most important figure in her life. Despite this jealous streak, King is not an aggressive or mean-spirited animal. He is playful and gentle, especially with the young girl Marie, who becomes his frequent playmate throughout the series.
King's primary role in the story is that of a loyal companion to Nadia, having been her best friend since before she met Jean and the others. He is by her side as she travels from the circus in Paris to the high seas aboard the Nautilus and beyond. His presence provides Nadia with comfort and familiarity in a world that often feels hostile and mysterious to her. He is also a capable defender, assisting Nadia in fights against the Grandis gang by helping her fend off the larger Sanson and Hanson.
His most significant relationship is with Nadia, with whom he has a bond that allows for easy communication. Nadia has the unique ability to talk with animals, and she shares a particularly strong connection with King. He also has an important, if initially strained, relationship with Jean, driven by his jealousy over Nadia's attention. Over time, he forms a warm and playful bond with Marie, a young orphan they meet on an island. King is also present in the epilogue of the series, where he is shown still living with a now-married Nadia and Jean, and has had several cubs of his own.
King does not possess any supernatural or extraordinary abilities. As a lion cub, his notable traits are his sharp instincts, his loyalty, and his effectiveness as a small but fierce combatant. He is not an ordinary house pet; he is a wild animal that has been tamed, and he uses his natural agility and strength to help Nadia when she is in danger.
