Description
The Alpha Droids, robotic foot soldiers for the Alpha Gang, serve as labor, combat, and field operatives. Appearing in anime, arcade, Nintendo DS, and TCG media, they are also known as Alpha Bots or ACT (Alpha Cyber Troopers).
In the anime, Alpha Droids exhibit low intelligence, communicating in monotonous phrases like "Searching, searching" or "Catch brats." They interpret orders literally, possess minimal problem-solving skills, and often fail missions due to clumsiness. Most models can curl into egg-shaped forms. The standard Actroid features a blue-purple color scheme with an Alpha Gang chest insignia. Variants include white units forming squid-like constructs and upgraded "Super Alpha Droids" deployed by Seth; these Super units demonstrate enhanced durability and combat effectiveness. Additional anime-exclusive models are floating ladybug-shaped security droids and higher-intelligence, fluent-speaking wheeled squid-like droids. Typically, they swarm opponents or operate machinery, but rarely succeed against dinosaurs. They appear sporadically in the second season performing tasks like rowing boats.
Within the Nintendo DS game, Alpha Droids act as random and static enemies, summoning dinosaurs to battle the player. Five distinct models exist across three colors (purple, green, red), correlating to increasing difficulty: standard Actroids, spiked-ear variants, frill-headed variants, and Super Alpha Droids. Random encounters follow predictable attack patterns based on prior turns, with higher-level droids giving vaguer hints and breaking patterns more frequently. Static encounters and mini-bosses deviate further from patterns and explode upon defeat. A fifth variant, floating Supply Droids, uses unique dinosaurs like Fukuisaurus, attacks randomly, flees battles early, and grants substantial rewards. All defeated droids yield experience points and in-game currency.
For the arcade game, Alpha Droids feature in Move Card effects. Actroids appear in Normal Moves such as "Alpha Guard" and "Alpha Net." Kakutoroids—large, red, muscular units distinct from Super Alpha Droids—are summoned via "Kakutoroid" Move Cards. A tank-mounted Actroid with a satellite dish features in the "Soft Beam" Move Card.
In the TCG, Alpha Droids and Super Alpha Droids are Normal Move Cards restricted to Alpha Dinosaurs, lacking elemental attributes. The "Alpha Droids" card grants +400 power, allowing the player to view and reposition the top deck card. The "Super Alpha Droids" card provides +300 power and lets the player exchange cards from hand with the deck upon winning a battle.
