Description
Nopis, also known as Seth, hails from 2126 and initially assisted Dr. Ancient and Dr. Cretacia on their Mesozoic mission. He betrayed them during this mission by aiding Dr. Z’s takeover of their timeship. The android Jonathan’s intervention caused the ship to crash in the present day. After the crash, Nopis collaborated with Dr. Z to repair the disguised mobile base Zeta Point while covertly pursuing his own plans.

He avoided early field operations with the Alpha Gang, working behind the scenes until gradually revealing his true objective: forcibly evolving dinosaurs to endure the Cretaceous-Paleogene extinction. He believed this served the species’ greater good, justifying unethical experiments despite individual suffering. These included reshaping dinosaur Move Cards into triangular multi-Move configurations and secretly dispatching Rod and Laura on unsanctioned dinosaur hunts without Dr. Z’s knowledge. His first major field test involved controlling Terry to wield altered Velociraptor Move Cards against Chomp, resulting in victory.

After extensive preparation, he betrayed the Alpha Gang. He modified the captured Saurophaganax to withstand his Fire Scorcher Super Move and unleashed it against both the D-Team and former allies upon revealing his agenda. Commanding Zeta Point—exposed as the timeship Backlander—he ejected the Alpha Gang and revived a Tyrannosaurus fossil into the monstrous Black T. rex. Unleashing this creature on Sanjo City, he attempted time travel using copied Stone Tablets. Flawed copies triggered a temporal era merger instead. Defeated by Chomp and Ace’s Fusion Move and thwarted by the combined D-Team and Alpha Gang, he clung to Chomp as a time portal pulled them in. Chomp released him into the timestream.

Rescued from the vortex by the Spectral Space Pirates, he joined their ranks. Leveraging his expertise in time travel and dinosaur modification, he designed Spectral Armor for their dinosaurs and directed operations, such as ordering Shear to control a wild Isisaurus. He engineered enhanced Spectral Armor forms and maintained a Cryolophosaurus as his personal fighter. While feigning loyalty, his true goal remained seizing the Cosmos Stones to obliterate existence and rebuild reality under his dominion.

He later faked defection from the Space Pirates, distracting Dr. Z with a chibi goo dinosaur that transformed into a Gel Jark. This ploy allowed him to steal the D-Team’s recovered Red and Green Cosmos Stones. He subsequently orchestrated another betrayal against the Space Pirates to claim all Cosmos Stones. Yet he displayed unexpected change, nearly sacrificing himself to destroy the Dark Pterosaur—hinting at shifting motivations.

His personality maintains a calm, quiet exterior that masks manipulative and self-serving drives. He initially showed little emotion but descended into maniacal excitement over evolutionary successes before regaining composure with the Space Pirates. Despite betrayals and inflicting suffering for his goals, he strictly honors promises, exemplified when he returned Chomp’s card and freed captured allies after Max fulfilled a perilous demand. He rationalizes actions through a messianic complex centered on dinosaur survival, deeming forced evolution and control essential for species perpetuation.

Visually, he has spiked blue hair, pale skin, and reddish triangular tattoos beneath his eyes. His attire shifted with affiliations: initially a dark red/brown Alpha Gang overcoat bearing their symbol, featuring a high collar for storing Move Cards or tools, fingerless gloves, pants, and boots. With the Spectral Space Pirates, he wore a white-and-black cloak over a blue jacket with white sleeves and trim, secured by a red belt, plus white pants and navy boots.

The name "Nopis" derives from reversing the first part of "Spinosaurus" in Japanese katakana (スピノ to ノピス), referencing his frequent use of Water-element dinosaurs like Spinosaurus in arcade and DS games. "Seth" alludes to the Egyptian chaos god Set, reflecting his disruptive, manipulative nature.

Key dinosaurs under his command include Saurophaganax modified for Fire Scorcher, the artificially created Black T. rex, and Cryolophosaurus—his ice-based Secret Dinosaur fighter with the Space Pirates. He also utilized a Velociraptor for Move Card testing and the Gel Jark for theft. Strategic deployments and modifications of these creatures were central to his schemes across both seasons.
