Description
Dall Narciss is the Emperor of Creteria, a nation in the world of El Hazard, and his initial appearance presents a puzzle that slowly unravels into a much more complex and tragic figure. At first glance, he seems the epitome of a decadent and ineffective ruler. He is described as being almost completely self-absorbed, more concerned with drinking, luxury, and his own amusement than the deteriorating condition of his country. His manner of dress is notably foppish and garish, an asymmetrical collection of robes and ornaments that visually reinforces his seemingly shallow and arrogant personality.

This superficial impression is strengthened by his immediate and blatant interest in the female newcomers to his court, particularly Nanami and the Water Priestess Qawool Towles, whose heart he aggressively pursues. In contrast, he dismisses male characters like Makoto without interest. His pursuit of Qawool becomes an obsession, and his jealousy towards any affection she shows Makoto is pronounced, though it never escalates into direct violence. When it becomes clear he cannot win her, this apparent infatuation shatters him, leading him to retreat into a dark, drunken stupor. He shows little concern for Gilda, his Captain of the Guard, who is frustrated by his negligence and eventually stages a coup for the nation's good. Outwardly, he seems like a foolish, arrogant, and corrupt man with no business running a country.

However, this is a carefully constructed facade. The real Dall Narcis is a deeply traumatized individual. In his youth, he was a headstrong but happy nobleman, engaged to Gilda, with whom he seemed to be in love. As a member of his family line, he was the guardian of the Spring of Life, the power source that ensures Creteria's prosperity. Driven by curiosity against the advice of Gilda and centuries of tradition, he entered the forbidden chamber containing the Spring. There, he discovered the horrifying truth: the Spring was not a mere power source but the control center for the Eye of God, a devastating weapon of mass destruction. The revelation of his family's dark legacy broke him.

Upon emerging, he was a haunted and driven man. He broke his engagement with Gilda, commanded her to leave, and withdrew into himself. He then created his foppish, self-absorbed persona as a distraction from the nightmarish horrors that plagued his mind. His unconcern for his nation is not simple arrogance but a form of resigned despair; he sees the gradual deterioration of the Spring of Life as a just punishment for the sins of his ancestors and a fitting end for such a terrible weapon. He is willing to let his country crumble rather than engage with its cursed foundation.

His true character re-emerges when Gilda, manipulated by the being Arujah, learns to activate the Spring, threatening widespread destruction. While he was resigned to the fate of his own people, he is not willing to see innocents from El-Hazard harmed. In a desperate effort to stop her, he reveals significant fighting skill and suffers a terrible wound. He then provides crucial assistance to the protagonists, sharing his knowledge of the Spring of Life's history to help them avert disaster. His key relationship is with Gilda; the story reveals that their bond was once romantic and deep, and it is the trauma over the Spring that drove them apart. His development is one of painful revelation: from a broken man hiding behind a mask of frivolity to one who must confront his past to save others. His notable ability is not a magical power but a deep, secret knowledge of his nation's core technology and a surprising aptitude for combat when the situation demands it. The character finds a form of resolution when misunderstandings with Gilda are cleared, and the two rekindle their love, marry, and raise a daughter in a now-peaceful Creteria, finally free from the nightmares of the past.
