Description
"El Hazard" is a fantasy adventure anime series that blends elements of science fiction and traditional fantasy. The narrative begins with Makoto Mizuhara, a high school student, who, along with his teacher Mr. Fujisawa and his rival Jinnai, is transported to the mysterious world of El Hazard. This world is characterized by its advanced technology, ancient ruins, and a delicate balance of power among its inhabitants. The trio is separated upon arrival, each finding themselves in different regions of El Hazard.

Makoto encounters Princess Rune Venus, a member of the Roshtarian royal family, and her loyal bodyguard, Nanami. The Roshtarians are engaged in a conflict with the Bugrom, a race of insect-like beings led by the enigmatic Ifurita, a powerful and ancient weapon. Ifurita, initially under the control of the Bugrom, becomes a central figure in the story as her true nature and past are revealed. Makoto forms a bond with Ifurita, who begins to regain her memories and autonomy, shifting the dynamics of the ongoing war.

Jinnai, on the other hand, aligns himself with the Bugrom, using his cunning and manipulative nature to rise through their ranks. His ambition and desire for power drive much of the conflict, as he seeks to exploit the technological and magical resources of El Hazard for his own gain. Meanwhile, Mr. Fujisawa finds himself in the company of the priestess Shayla Shayla, who possesses deep knowledge of El Hazard's history and technology. Together, they work to uncover the secrets of the ancient civilization that once thrived in El Hazard.

The series explores themes of loyalty, identity, and the consequences of wielding power. As the characters navigate the complexities of El Hazard, they are forced to confront their own motivations and the impact of their actions on the world around them. The interplay between the human characters and the inhabitants of El Hazard, including the Bugrom and the Roshtarians, creates a rich tapestry of alliances, betrayals, and shifting loyalties.

The narrative is driven by a combination of personal quests and larger-scale conflicts, with the fate of El Hazard hanging in the balance. The characters' journeys are intertwined with the exploration of the world's history, its technological marvels, and the ancient forces that continue to shape its destiny. The series balances action, intrigue, and character development, offering a compelling story set in a vividly imagined world.

Miz Mishtal, having followed them in secret, reveals herself and explains that the gate responds only to those with royal blood. Nanami volunteers to try, and her contact with the stone causes the gate to open, confirming her connection to the ancient lineage. Inside, they find a dormant mechanical giant, which the Phantom Tribe intends to use as a weapon. Jinnai, having allied with the Phantom Tribe, arrives with a detachment of soldiers and demands control of the machine. When Miz Mishtal refuses, Jinnai threatens to destroy the gate with explosives, trapping everyone inside unless they comply. Fujisawa disables the explosives by cutting a wire, but Jinnai retaliates by activating the giant’s partial systems, causing a cave-in. In the chaos, Miz Mishtal confesses that she is the last surviving princess of the old kingdom, and that the machine was meant to protect El Hazard, not conquer it. The group escapes through a passage that collapses behind them, leaving Jinnai stranded with the unstable machine. Makoto refuses to allow the sacrifice of the current world for a past civilization. He activates the Eye of the Demon, a relic embedded in his hand, which counters the ritual. The energy backlash incapacitates Alielle and disrupts the Bugrom forces. Ifurita’s programming shifts, and she recognizes Makoto as her master instead of following the priestess’s orders. She uses her power to seal the demon’s awakening permanently. The Bugrom queen retreats with Alielle, vowing to reclaim El Hazard. With the immediate threat neutralized, Makoto and his companions return to the surface, but the Eye of the Demon remains active, indicating that the balance of power in El Hazard has not yet stabilized.

Jinnai and the Bugrom army launch a synchronized assault on the Holy Land, aiming to capture the Eye of God. Their forces breach the outer barriers, forcing the defenders into a desperate retreat. Witnessing the destruction and the threat to her allies, Fatora decides to accept the guardianship. The ritual transforms her, merging her with the Eye’s energy. The Bugrom Queen orders her forces to seize the Eye, and Jinnai leads an assault on the ruins. His soldiers breach the outer defenses, forcing Fujisawa and the others to fight them off. Fujisawa, despite his cowardly nature, uses a captured Bugrom vehicle to hold the line. Inside, the group activates the Eye, causing the entire structure to transform and lift off. Jinnai’s forces board the vessel, and he confronts the group in the control room, attempting to commandeer the ship. His lack of understanding of the ancient technology prevents him from operating it. Makoto initiates a launch sequence, but the ship’s systems respond unpredictably, teleporting the vessel to an unknown location. Stranded aboard the Eye, the group finds themselves adrift in an unfamiliar desert landscape while the Bugrom on the ground are left without their prize.

The chamber begins to collapse, forcing everyone to flee while Jinnai’s soldiers attempt to seize the priestess. During the chaos, the sarcophagus shatters and Fatora awakens, displaying immense magical power that scatters both groups. Fatora mistakes Makoto for her long-lost love from a past life and immediately latches onto him with obsessive devotion. The royal faction now must manage Fatora’s unpredictable behavior while preparing for the impending release of the sealed deity.

During the confrontation, Fatora reveals she is the younger sister of Princess Rune Venus and expresses frustration with Rune’s reliance on diplomacy over force. She seeks to prove her own strength by defeating the Demon God herself, believing such a victory would unite the Holy Land. After Miz Mishtal intervenes to stop the fighting, Fatora learns that the true Demon God, Ifurita, remains sealed and not under the group’s command. Unwilling to abandon her goal, Fatora decides to join the group temporarily to observe them and await the Demon God’s awakening. Ifurita arrives and, overriding her previous programming, blocks the golem’s strike aimed at Makoto, sustaining damage to her own frame. The golem rampages through the fortress, triggering massive collapses that force both sides to flee. Fatora orders the allied forces to retreat to the plains to regroup and assess losses. The Phantom Tribe’s fortress crumbles, burying the priestess and leaving the golem uncontrolled. Makoto retrieves Ifurita’s damaged core, learning from her that a self-destruct sequence has begun.
