Emily Brown

Description
Emily Brown is an American voice actress known for her work in English dubs of anime series, primarily during the late 1990s and early 2000s. She is also a producer and director, notably for the children's television series Signing Time!.

Her career in voice acting began early, with one of her first roles being Annie Labelle in the animated series Robotech in 1985, a part she performed at the age of thirteen. She later pursued formal training, graduating from Brigham Young University in 1996 with a degree in theatre. Over the course of her voice acting career, she was credited under several names, including Emily Brown, Mary Cobb, and Marie Downing. Among her notable roles during this period is Kotoko in the 1999 series The Legend of Black Heaven, where she is credited as Emily Brown. Her filmography from this era also includes major roles such as Melfina in Outlaw Star, Alice Mizuki in Serial Experiments Lain, Aina Sahalin in Mobile Suit Gundam: The 08th MS Team, and providing the singing voice for the character Rem in Trigun. She also voiced Jessie Gurtlant in Battle Athletes Victory under the name Marie Downing.

Beyond her anime work, Brown contributed voices to other projects, including the video game Final Fantasy IX and the animated film The Swan Princess. Her career trajectory shifted following a personal family development. In 1996, her sister, Rachel Coleman, discovered that her daughter was deaf. Brown collaborated with Coleman to create Signing Time!, a public television and video series designed to teach American Sign Language to children. In this capacity, she has served as a director, producer, and writer for the series and its related projects through their production company, Two Little Hands Productions.
