Yuri Amano
Description
Yuri Amano is a Japanese voice actress born on January 5, 1966, in Kyoto, Japan. Her real name is Tomoko Yoshikawa, which she used as an earlier stage name. She has been active in the voice acting industry since her debut in 1985 and is affiliated with the talent agency Arts Vision.
Amano's career began in the mid-1980s with minor roles, including her debut as Student C in the anime Shōwa Ahōzoshi Akanuke Ichiban. She underwent formal training at the Katsuta Voice Actor Academy and the Japan Narration Acting Institute before entering the profession. The 1990s marked her breakthrough period, during which she secured several prominent and enduring roles.
She is widely recognized for her portrayal of strong-willed and intelligent female characters. Among her most notable roles is Keiko Yukimura, the dedicated girlfriend of the protagonist in the long-running series Yu Yu Hakusho. She also gained significant recognition for her work in the Tenchi Muyo! franchise, voicing the Galaxy Police officer Kiyone Makibi across multiple series, OVAs, and films. Another major lead role was Rain Mikamura, the chief mechanic and pilot in the anime Mobile Fighter G Gundam.
Her filmography demonstrates considerable range, encompassing a variety of genres and character types. In fantasy series, she voiced the antagonist Alcyone in both television adaptations of Magic Knight Rayearth and the goddess Ifurita in El-Hazard: The Magnificent World. She also took on villainous roles in the magical girl genre, such as Berthier in Sailor Moon R and CereCere in Sailor Moon SuperS. Her work extended to science fiction with roles like Yuriko Star in The Irresponsible Captain Tylor and Kyōko Aoi in the Future GPX Cyber Formula series.
Beyond anime, Amano contributed her voice to numerous video games. Notable examples include Mary Argent in Tales of Destiny, Hokuto in Street Fighter EX, and Ibuki in Street Fighter III. She has also been involved in drama CDs, contributing to scripting for a production.
In 2000, Amano temporarily retired from voice acting but returned to the industry in August 2003. In her later career, she has frequently been cast in maternal roles, such as Yūta's mother in Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions!, Sara Rockbell in Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, and Yoshika's mother in the Strike Witches series. She continues to work steadily, with recent roles including Satoko Mizushino in the 2024 anime Solo Leveling.
