P.J. Lee

Description
P.J. Lee is the professional name of Patricia Ja Lee, an American voice actress who worked extensively on English-language dubs of Japanese anime, primarily during the late 1990s and 2000s. The name P.J. Lee served as a shorthand credit for her voice work, while she is also widely known for on-screen roles such as Cassie Chan, the Pink Ranger, in the Power Rangers franchise and as the voice and motion-capture actress for Jill Valentine in the Resident Evil video game series.

Lee began her voice acting career in the late 1990s, contributing to several notable anime series produced during the initial boom of the North American anime market. She provided the voice for the character Mika Iwakura in the influential psychological series Serial Experiments Lain. Her early work also included the role of Meifa Puzi in the globally acclaimed series Cowboy Bebop. In the year 2000, she voiced Megumi Kurogane in the series Gate Keepers.

She is recognized by fans for the role of Afura Mann in the El Hazard franchise. She voiced this character in two different installments: first in the television series El Hazard: The Wanderers, and later in the series El Hazard: The Alternative World. This reprisal of a character across different series is a notable point in her anime career.

Later in the 2000s, Lee contributed to two highly popular comedy series. She provided the voice for Mizuki Okajima, the drummer of the student band ENOZ, in the English dub of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. She also voiced the character Patricia Martin, an American exchange student, in the series Lucky Star. She would later reprise her role as Mizuki Okajima in the spin-off series The Disappearance of Nagato Yuki-chan.

Beyond her specific voice roles, Lee was part of a generation of actors who worked on multiple projects for major anime distributors. She contributed to the English dub of the landmark cyberpunk film Akira for its 2001 Animaze re-dub, credited under the name Pee Jay Lee. Her other anime credits include roles in Battle Athletes, Hand Maid May, and Mobile Suit Gundam 0083: Stardust Memory. She also portrayed the character Fumie in an episode of Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex.

A notable achievement during her anime career involved her work with Bandai Entertainment. Lee was selected to portray the protagonist Haruhi Suzumiya in the first season of the ASOS Brigade, a series of live-action promotional videos created to announce and promote the North American license of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. This role connected her directly to a major marketing campaign for one of the most significant anime franchises of the mid-2000s.
