Description
Ayuko Rara is a character defined by her existence across two parallel realities, each casting her in a strikingly different role. In the original world, known as World A, she is Ayuko Sanada, the wife of the scientist Ken Sanada and the mother of their daughter, Mitsuki Sanada. Her time in this world ended when she left her family under mysterious circumstances, leading her daughter to believe she had run away with another man.
The parallel world presents a very different version of Ayuko. Here, she is Ayuko Rara, the seemingly submissive wife of Hiroshi Rara, the leader of the Rara Army, which is locked in a mecha war with the Earth Defence Force led by her counterpart's former husband, Ken Sanada. In this world, she is also the mother of a different version of her daughter, Mitsuki Rara. However, her role as a housewife is a carefully maintained facade. In truth, Ayuko Rara is the cold and calculating mastermind behind the conflict. She secretly controls the Rara Army alongside a mysterious alien entity named Kumu, manipulating events from the shadows while posing as obedient to her husband.
Ayuko’s personality is marked by cunning, deception, and a willingness to exploit emotional bonds to achieve her goals. Her primary motivation appears to be conquest and control, waging war against the Earth Defence Force for her own purposes. To this end, she employs a range of manipulative tactics. She exploits the feelings that Mitsuki Sanada has for the protagonist, Kazuki Yotsuga, to coerce her into piloting the powerful HIMC mecha against her own side. Furthermore, she resorts to brainwashing her own daughter, Mitsuki Rara, turning her into a living weapon devoid of hesitation or emotion when the mecha rejects its pilot due to her personal feelings.
Ayuko’s role in the story is that of a primary antagonist, orchestrating the war and posing a direct threat to Kazuki and the Earth Defence Force. Her key relationships are defined by manipulation. She uses her husband Hiroshi as a figurehead, her daughter as a tool, and views her enemies as obstacles to be overcome. She directly pilots a powerful robot named Himiko in battle, but is ultimately defeated by Kazuki and his robot, Zinv. Following the destruction of Zinv, which merges the two parallel worlds into one, a reconciled version of events takes place. In this new, unified reality, Ayuko and her family move in next door to the Sanada family. Her relationships shift again, as she somehow becomes the older sister of a reluctant Akane Yamano. From this new vantage point, she continues to take an interest in Kazuki, hoping to uncover the secrets of his connection to the legendary robot Zinv.
