Description
Elysse, also known as Ellyse Aldomordish, is a teenage girl with long blonde hair and blue eyes who serves as a central figure in the narrative. She is 16 years old and finds herself at the heart of a dangerous political and military conspiracy. Her father, a scientist named Nalderof Aldomordish, is the creator of a revolutionary and dangerous piece of technology known as the Gravity Destruction Ray, a weapon built within one of the planet Yietta`s gravity belts that has the power to destroy the island colony.
The story begins with Elysse fleeing for her life alongside her father as they are pursued by military forces led by the armored commander Guizel. In a desperate bid to save her, Elysse`s father places her in an escape pod, but not before revealing that her own DNA holds the key to the weapon. Specifically, the last twelve digits of her DNA sequence, when decoded using a method called the BRG method, function as the access code needed to activate the Gravity Destruction Ray. She witnesses her father being gunned down by Guizel as she makes her escape, an event that sets her on her path.
In terms of personality, Elysse is initially depicted as shy, naive, and bashful. Having just seen her father murdered and now being hunted by a powerful military force, she is in a state of shock and fear. This is evident when she first encounters Tita, the captain of the pet shop hunting vessel Cha-Cha Maru, as she is flustered and quickly apologizes before running away. Her timid nature is highlighted in early interactions with her rescuers, such as when she becomes very embarrassed after Tita accidentally fondles her while helping her undress for a bath, or when she is initially reluctant to share her name with the crew. Despite her fear, she is also trusting, particularly towards Tita, who she comes to rely on as her protector.
Elysses primary motivation throughout the narrative is survival, but this quickly becomes intertwined with a desire to honor her fathers legacy and stop Guizels plans for conquest. She carries the immense burden of being the only one who can activate the superweapon, a secret that Guizel is desperate to obtain. Rather than remaining a passive target, she ultimately demonstrates courage and a sense of responsibility by deciding to confront the threat head-on. Her deepest desire is to prevent her fathers invention from being used as a tool of destruction, which shapes her ultimate decision.
Her role in the story is that of the deuteragonist, the key to the central conflict. While Tita is the action-oriented captain driving the physical confrontation, Elysse holds the informational key that the antagonist, Guizel, requires to execute his plan. Her knowledge and her very person are the macguffin that the military forces are hunting and that Tita and her crew are protecting. As a result, her presence forces the Cha-Cha Marus crew to become embroiled in a planet-wide battle against Guizels faction.
The most significant relationship Elysse forms is with Captain Tita Mu Koshigaya. Tita rescues Elysse by chance in a marketplace, and despite the danger it brings upon her ship and crew, she decides to protect the young fugitive. Their bond deepens over the course of the story, moving from one of rescuer and refugee to a close, intimate friendship that is a focal point of the film`s quieter moments. In a heartfelt conversation, Elysse describes her feelings for Tita in a manner that suggests a connection akin to love at first sight, highlighting the emotional core of their relationship.
Elysse undergoes a notable development as the story progresses. She begins as a frightened and helpless girl, dependent on others for her safety. Through her experiences aboard the Cha-Cha Maru and her friendship with the confident and capable Tita, she finds her own resolve. The climax of her personal journey does not see her staying with her new friends. Instead, she makes the mature and difficult decision to return to the colony to continue her father`s scientific work, ensuring his legacy is one of peace and that the dangerous technology is not misused. This choice demonstrates that she has transformed from a passive victim into an active agent with her own purpose.
Elysse has no exceptional combat abilities or physical powers. Her primary and most notable ability is her unique genetic code, which acts as the biological key to activating the Gravity Destruction Ray, making her the most valuable person in the conflict. Her background as a scientists daughter also implies a degree of intelligence and scientific familiarity, which supports her final decision to follow in her fathers footsteps, even if this is not a central focus of the action-driven plot.
