Description
Elysse Altmodisch, also known as Ellyse Aldomordish, is a central character in the anime Plastic Little. She is a sixteen-year-old girl with long blonde hair and blue eyes. Her life is dramatically altered when her father, the scientist Nalderof Altmodisch, makes a dangerous discovery and is killed by military forces led by Lord Guizel. Her father's sacrifice allows her to escape from a colony complex known as the gravity belt.
On the run, Elysse is discovered and rescued by Tita Mu Koshigaya, the young captain of a ship called the Cha-Cha Maru. The military is pursuing Elysse because she unknowingly carries the key to a superweapon, the Gravity Destruction Ray. The final twelve digits of the code needed to activate this weapon are encoded within her own DNA sequence. Lord Guizel seeks to capture her to obtain this code and use the weapon to stage a coup against the planetary government.
Elysse's personality is initially marked by shyness and bashfulness. When she first comes aboard the Cha-Cha Maru, she is wary and easily embarrassed, especially during social situations like being invited to the ship's bathhouse. However, as she spends time with Tita and the crew, her trust in them grows, and she begins to open up. A close bond develops between Elysse and Tita; Tita risks her ship and her life to protect Elysse, seemingly on a whim, driven by a feeling that she could not stand by and watch her be captured.
Elysse's primary motivation is to evade capture while coming to terms with the legacy left by her father. Her role in the story is that of the deuteragonist, the key figure whose safety and unique biological code will determine the fate of the colony. Throughout the narrative, she transforms from a passive fugitive into a more determined individual. By the end of her journey, she makes the significant decision to return to the colony, not as a prisoner, but to continue her father's scientific work and take control of his legacy. Her most notable ability is not a physical skill or combat prowess, but the crucial biological key she possesses: the specific DNA sequence that is the only means to unlock the devastating Gravity Destruction Ray.
