Kurai is the fourteenth and final princess of Gehenna’s royal family and the sole survivor of her direct bloodline after angels destroyed her homeland. Her true identity is that of the Dragonmaster, a secret position her parents concealed by allowing her brother Arakune to believe he held the title. She returned from exile to find her people slaughtered and was nearly killed herself before the Organic Angel Alexiel intervened, an act that forged a lifelong devotion. Despite appearing as a short-haired, androgynous child with white hair and blue eyes, she is relatively young by demon standards yet far older than her appearance suggests. Kurai speaks of herself with masculine terms and uses a distinctive Gehenna dialect, reflecting her tomboyish, prince-like self-image. She is outwardly competitive, determined, and outspoken, but underneath runs a deep fragility and a trusting nature that leaves her vulnerable to manipulation by those she believes in.

Her central motivation is to serve and protect Alexiel, whose spirit she seeks in the human world after stealing Alexiel’s frozen body from Heaven alongside Arakune. When she discovers that Alexiel’s soul exists within the human teenager Setsuna Mudo, she initially struggles to accept this reincarnation but eventually becomes his devoted ally. Over time her devotion transforms into genuine love for Setsuna as an individual, though she comes to understand that his bond with his sister Sara will always take precedence. Kurai’s role in the larger conflict is active and pivotal: she assists Setsuna in his journey to Hell to recover Sara’s soul, is tricked by the Mad Hatter into agreeing to a false marriage with Lucifer in exchange for Setsuna’s revival, and must be rescued by Setsuna and Noise. After the death of Arakune, who sacrificed himself in her place, she shoulders responsibility for his loss and commits herself to aiding her nation against the angelic forces. In the climactic events she joins Setsuna and the archangels of fire and earth on the path to the Tower of Etenamenki, where she helps seal Adam Kadamon and fights in the final confrontation against God. Following the resolution, she searches for Setsuna on Earth and finds a form of happiness, having grown from a survivor clinging to Alexiel into a person capable of acting for her own people and accepting unrequited love with quiet strength.

Kurai’s most notable ability is her command over dragons. As the true Dragonmaster, she is the master of the Shinryuu, three dragon oracles, and holds authority over various dragon gods who serve as protectors of Gehenna. This power positions her as a significant supernatural force, blending her royal heritage with the raw might of the dragon deities bound to her will.
