Yūko Miyamura
Description
Yūko Miyamura is a Japanese voice actress, actress, singer, and sound director born on December 4, 1972, in Kobe, Hyōgo Prefecture. After graduating from the theater division of Toho Gakuen College of Drama and Music, she entered the Japan Narration Acting Institute and made her voice acting debut in 1994, with her first credited role being Chun-Li in the game Ken Sei Mogura: Street Fighter II. She rose to prominence in 1995, achieving widespread recognition for her dual roles as the fiery Asuka Langley Soryu in the landmark series Neon Genesis Evangelion and as Hinagiku Tamano, also known as Angel Daisy, in Wedding Peach. These performances established her as a prominent talent in the industry.
Throughout her career, Miyamura has portrayed a wide array of memorable characters. She holds the long-running role of Kazuha Toyama, the spirited childhood friend of Heiji Hattori, in the Detective Conan franchise, a part she has voiced since 1998 across television episodes, original video animations, and numerous feature films, including the 2024 movie The Million-Dollar Pentagram. Her other significant anime roles include the fierce warrior Casca in Berserk, the determined Aisha Clanclan in Outlaw Star, and Ritsuko Inoue in Those Who Hunt Elves. She also voiced the iconic character Chun-Li across multiple installments of the Street Fighter video game series, as well as in crossover titles like X-Men vs. Street Fighter and Marvel vs. Capcom.
Beyond acting, Miyamura has pursued a career as a singer, releasing CDs and collaborating with prominent Japanese musicians such as Susumu Hirasawa and Yasuharu Konishi. She has also worked as a sound director under her married name, Yūko Seki, contributing to series like Loveless and Cherry Magic! Thirty Years of Virginity Can Make You a Wizard?!. In 2007, she was diagnosed with Graves' disease, a health challenge that affected her work, yet she continued to perform, encouraged by the producers of Detective Conan to prioritize her treatment while retaining her role. She lived in Australia for a period from 2009 before returning to Japan in 2018. Her enduring contributions to the industry were celebrated with a 30th-anniversary event in 2025.
