Description
Satomi Yajima is a seventeen-year-old karate practitioner and combat waitress at Tokyo’s Bikkuri Monkey restaurant. She lives with her younger brother Daisuke after their parents died in a childhood car accident, forcing her into the role of primary caregiver and provider. Financial hardship left basic necessities like food and haircuts challenging, resulting in perpetually messy, boyish short hair from unaffordable styling. Her responsibilities forged an honest, practical personality. Cooking and training are her primary hobbies, while she harbors deep dislike for poverty and betrayal. Daisuke remains her most cherished relationship, driving her actions.
Satomi trained at the same Kyokushin Karate dojo as childhood friend Yuka Takeuchi, establishing a long-term bond through sparring and competition. Their rivalry developed a complex dynamic as Satomi consistently lost to Yuka, eroding her confidence until she withdrew from competition. This "always second best" history created underlying insecurities about her abilities. Her fighting style incorporates fire-based techniques, including the flaming heel strike Gokuensho, aerial flaming strikes Kaenzan, and full-body flaming combo Hissatsu Kyokushinken.
Financial desperation drove her into the V.G. tournament when Daisuke developed a severe, unexplained illness. Overwhelming medical expenses allowed the Jahana Group to manipulate her—they poisoned Daisuke to worsen his condition, then offered treatment funding for tournament participation. During the competition, Miranda Jahana’s cyber drive implant triggered brainwashing and physical transformation: her eyes glowed blue, progressing to blank white "Mind-Control Eyes," stripping her autonomy while enhancing combat capabilities to near-unstoppable levels. Under this influence, she violently defeated opponents like Chiho and Kaori without remorse.
Her arc culminated in a forced confrontation with Yuka, who refused to fight until necessary. Yuka broke Miranda’s control by appealing to Satomi’s true self, recalling their shared history and Satomi’s identity as a devoted sister. Combined with Yuka’s empathetic ki abilities, this freed Satomi, who then collaborated with Yuka on a combined energy attack destroying the cyber drive and defeating Miranda. Post-tournament, Satomi assumed management of their original dojo while continuing to care for and educate Daisuke.
Outside the OVA continuity, in the Advanced V.G. game series, Satomi participates in the tournament for financial support, facing Yuka in competitive matches that reaffirm their rivalry. Advanced V.G. 2 features her encountering Yuka’s lookalike Tamao Mitsurugi, whom she initially mistakes for Yuka before challenging to a test of strength. This version omits the mind-control plotline, reinforcing Satomi’s role as Yuka’s respectful rival and her ongoing dedication to martial arts and her brother’s well-being.
