Description
Lancelow Darwell is a character from the anime After War Gundam X, first introduced as a commander and elite mobile suit pilot within the Space Revolutionary Army during the devastating Seventh Space War. He holds the position of a highly skilled ace pilot and later becomes a trainer for new recruits in the aftermath of the conflict. On a personal level, Lancelow is depicted as a man who believes in the possibility of a better future and demonstrates genuine concern for the younger generation. He is not blindly loyal to authority and is willing to question and challenge his superiors when he disagrees with their decisions, showing a strong personal conscience.

His motivations evolve significantly over the course of his story. Initially serving the Space Revolutionary Army, his perspective begins to shift after he encounters the Newtype girl Tiffa Adill. This meeting prompts him to attempt to dissuade SRA President Zaider Rasso from deploying devastating superweapons against the resistance group Satyricon, though his efforts are ultimately unsuccessful. The actions of his superior, Russo, eventually prove so inhuman that Lancelow makes the decisive choice to betray his own faction and align himself with his former rival, Jamil Neate, effectively ending their long-standing antagonism.

In terms of story role, Lancelow functions as a rival figure to Jamil Neate, the captain of the Vulture ship Freeden. Their rivalry dates back to the Seventh Space War, during which the two men communicated only as Newtypes without ever meeting face to face until after the war. After the final battle, Lancelow stays on Earth to work as a trainer for the Space Revolutionary Army's newest members. In the epilogue of the series, he joins the Federal Government Peace Council alongside Jamil and Sarah, indicating his transition from a soldier of a former regime to a participant in rebuilding a peaceful post-war order. His key relationships include his rivalry turned alliance with Jamil, his respect for Tiffa which inspires his change of heart, and his subordinate role under Zaider Rasso before he ultimately defects.

Development-wise, Lancelow transforms from a loyal officer and ace pilot of a militaristic faction into a man who rejects the use of mass destruction and sides with those working toward peace. This arc is driven by his personal integrity and his exposure to the idealism represented by Tiffa. His notable abilities include exceptional skill as a mobile suit pilot, having served as a top ace during the war, and latent Newtype capabilities, which allowed him to communicate telepathically with Jamil during the Seventh Space War. He is physically described as an adult male with short red hair and gray eyes, appearing somewhat younger than his age.
