Description
High Bishop Bezewanst is the former High Bishop of Ehrenfest’s temple. He holds a powerful grudge against the commoner Myne. Although never officially recognized as a noble, he is the youngest son of the fifth Aub Ehrenfest and younger brother of Veronica, placing him within the archducal family’s lineage.

Bezewanst cuts an imposing figure with a large stature, long white hair, and a beard. He dresses in the white robes of his station. Unlike other blue priests, he carries a noble’s ring—a gift from his sister—though his lack of training prevents him from wielding it effectively.

His personality is defined by a profound inferiority complex, born from his noble blood going unrecognized. He is acutely conscious that the respect shown to him is superficial, granted only through his ties to Veronica, which fuels deep frustration and rage. This bitterness manifests in vengeful and cruel behavior, often directed at those beneath him. Shielded by his sister’s influence, he acts with arrogance, committing various crimes without repercussion. He is intensely vindictive, willing to sacrifice the temple’s or duchy’s welfare for personal revenge. Yet he remains capable of masking his flaws behind a veneer of benevolence when advantageous.

Born with archducal blood but comparatively low mana, Bezewanst was sent to the temple as an infant. His mother died in childbirth, leaving him vulnerable. The new first wife, from the Leisegang faction, insisted he be raised in the temple, finalizing his fate. As Veronica’s last surviving blood relative, she extended him vigorous protection, concealing his embezzlement and other transgressions while securing his appointment as High Bishop. Without noble status, he never attended the Royal Academy, acquired a Schtappe, or learned to control his mana or form a highbeast.

As High Bishop, he delegates most administrative duties to Ferdinand, preferring to indulge in the privileges of his role. His animosity toward Myne is severe; he once claimed that were it not for his insufficient mana, he would have her executed. After being rendered unconscious by Myne, he is later seen being carried with difficulty by several gray priests.

The High Bishop holds supreme authority within the duchy’s temple, approving major decisions, leading ceremonies, safeguarding the bible and its key, overseeing the book room and restricted texts, managing sacred chalices for Spring Prayer, organizing post–Harvest Festival home visits, and selecting blue priests for noble baptisms. In Ehrenfest, the role also includes supervision of the printing industry connected to the orphanage workshop and monastery. Tradition dictates that the High Bishop personally baptizes members of the archducal family.

Other known High Bishops of Ehrenfest include Rozemyne and Melchior.
