Description
Kenchan Nakajima, whose full name is Ken Nakajima, is a police officer assigned to the traffic division of the Bokuto Police Station in Tokyo. He hails from Suzuka City in Mie Prefecture and is approximately 26 years old. Nakajima holds the rank of patrolman and is a tall figure with a sturdy build, often seen wearing sunglasses, which gives him a strong and imposing first impression.

Beneath this tough exterior, however, is a personality marked by a deep-seated shyness and awkwardness, particularly in social situations. This is most evident in his interactions with his colleague, Miyuki Kobayakawa, for whom he harbors strong romantic feelings. Despite his confidence on a motorcycle, he becomes flustered and tongue-tied around her. The two share a mutual affection, but both are too timid to openly express their feelings, leading to a relationship that progresses very slowly. Their colleagues often watch this awkward dynamic with a mix of support and frustration, frequently trying to push the couple closer together, but with little success. Unlike the more straightforward relationship between Natsumi Tsujimoto and Shoji Tokairin, Nakajima and Kobayakawa's bond is characterized by hesitation and missed opportunities.

Nakajima’s primary motivation and pride lie in his work as a motorcycle patrol officer. He is an exceptionally gifted rider, having learned to handle a bike from his father at a young age. His skill is such that he could have pursued a successful career as a professional racer, but he chooses to remain a police officer because he loves his job. His peers have nicknamed him the "White Hawk of Bokuto" or the "Swift of Bokuto," monikers he is very proud of, though they may be somewhat self-proclaimed.

Within the story, Nakajima serves as a supporting officer and a key member of the Bokuto station crew. He is a reliable figure in high-speed pursuits, using his top-notch riding abilities to chase down offenders. In the original manga, he began as a minor character but gained a more prominent role as his relationship with Kobayakawa developed. His role often involves backing up the main duo of Natsumi and Miyuki, and despite his tough-guy image, he is secretly kind and willing to help others, even if he is reluctant to admit it.

Key relationships define much of his character arc. His feelings for Miyuki Kobayakawa are the most significant, and their struggle to connect is a recurring theme. He has an interesting, purely platonic friendship with Miyuki's partner, Natsumi Tsujimoto. The two share a love of bikes and can be rough with each other, joking and even exchanging playful punches, a level of comfort he cannot achieve with Miyuki. This friendship has, on at least one occasion, led to misunderstandings, such as when Natsumi's father mistakenly believed Nakajima was dating Natsumi instead. His family life includes his father, Daimaru Nakajima, who runs a motorbike shop called ZAPPER and from whom he learned his riding skills. He also has a stepmother, Sena Wakabayashi, who is notably much younger than his father. Nakajima was initially burdened by the situation but eventually came to accept her as family.

Over the course of the series, Nakajima experiences some character development, particularly in his personal life. By the end of the first season, he and Kobayakawa make some progress toward kindling a relationship. He also overcomes personal challenges, such as developing a fear of high speeds after an accident, which he conquers with the help of Natsumi and Miyuki.

Beyond his driving, Nakajima has several notable abilities and quirks. He is an accomplished artist, described as a "genius of description" in his village, and his drawing skills have been used to create composites of suspects. However, he also has notable flaws. He is known for being somewhat clumsy, often falling off his bike or injuring himself while chasing criminals, leading to him and another officer being called the "best clumsy combination" at Bokuto Station. His personal life is also messy; his room is famously unclean and full of trash. Adding to his awkward persona, he once suffered the humiliation of having a collection of adult magazines discovered by Miyuki, who was not impressed.
