Description
Chie Sagamiōno is a constable who appears as a rival to the series' main characters. She is the only daughter of a very wealthy family and carries herself with high self-esteem and a haughty, competitive nature. Her unusual motivation for joining the police force stemmed from a desire to debut in high society, using the badge of an elite officer with numerous achievements as her social credential.
Her primary role in the story is that of a foil and rival to Yoriko Nikaidō, her former classmate from the police academy. Chie is perpetually frustrated and jealous of Yoriko, who, despite being academically inferior to Chie, graduated at the top of their class through what Chie perceives as incredible luck. This perceived injustice fuels Chie's deep-seated inferiority complex and her singular drive to defeat Yoriko in a fair contest. She challenges Yoriko to various duels, including a police car race and a team shootout, but while she may often win the actual competition, Yoriko consistently ends up with the greater accolades and recognition, such as receiving a Commissioner's Award, which only deepens Chie's resentment.
Despite her arrogant exterior, Chie's motivations are somewhat unsophisticated. She has vowed to remain a police officer only until she can secure a victory over her rival. After a confrontation, she would be required to resign, but she repeatedly cancels this decision when she witnesses Yoriko's skill, unable to give up the chase. Her wealthy background provides her with resources not available to other officers, most notably a Porsche 911 (the 964 model) donated by her father, which she converts and uses as her personal police car. Her key relationships are defined by this antagonistic yet obsessive rivalry, with her actions and development almost entirely centered on her one-sided competition with Yoriko. Her notable abilities include skilled driving and proficiency in team-based tactics, as seen in her challenges, though her effectiveness is often overshadowed by her rival's fortunate timing and natural talent.
