Description
Eriya is a leopard beast-woman and a supporting antagonist in the series, serving as an elite soldier of the Zaibach Empire alongside her identical twin sister, Naria. Before being given the name Eriya by her savior, she was known as Beruberu. As a child, Eriya and her sister endured a traumatic event when hunters murdered their parents. The hunters then chased the young sisters to the edge of a cliff, forcing them to jump to escape. Before they could fall to their deaths, they were rescued by a young man with angelic wings, Folken Fanel, who took pity on them and brought them to the Zaibach Empire, granting them new names and a new purpose.

Eriya’s entire identity and motivation are centered on her absolute devotion to Folken. Having been saved by him in her youth, she serves him with unwavering loyalty, carrying out any mission he assigns without question. This deep devotion is intertwined with romantic love; both Eriya and her sister are in love with Folken, though they eventually come to a painful realization that while he treats them with kindness, he does not reciprocate their romantic feelings. Despite this heartbreak, her dedication to him remains unshaken, and her primary driving force is her desire to serve and protect him.

Within the story, Eriya works in perfect synchronization with her sister as one of Folken’s most trusted agents. Their primary objectives are to capture the protagonist Hitomi Kanzaki and the legendary Guymelef, Escaflowne, to further the Empire's ambitions. Unlike soldiers who believe in the Empire’s ideology, the twins’ allegiance is personal and exclusive to Folken. To increase their effectiveness, Emperor Dornkirk subjects them to an experimental procedure that transforms them into intensified luck soldiers, artificially enhancing their fortune. This ability manifests as a curse upon their enemies, causing mechanical failures, misfortunes, and defenses to break down around them, making them nearly untouchable in battle. They pilot advanced, high-speed Guymelefs called Teiring, which are specifically designed for swift attack missions.

The experimental procedure that grants them their luck-based powers comes at a terrible cost, causing both sisters to fall gravely ill. As their condition deteriorates, they age rapidly, and their health fails even as they continue to pursue their mission. In their final moments, after their flying fortress comes under attack, Eriya and Naria collapse before Folken. There, they express their love and gratitude to him one last time before succumbing to their illness and dying in his arms. This tragic end serves as a pivotal moment that affects those around them, marking a significant loss for Folken, for whom their sacrifice becomes a profound emotional turning point.

As a leopard beast-woman, Eriya possesses physical abilities beyond those of a normal human, including powerful claws capable of lethal force. She is highly skilled in various forms of combat, both on foot—using weapons like daggers and swords—and as a Guymelef pilot. Her most notable artificial ability is her manipulated luck, a supernatural phenomenon that causes catastrophic misfortune to her opponents, making her a formidable and elusive adversary.
