OVA
Description
Kiki Rosita is a young woman who lives in a village located near the battlefield where the Kojima Battalion of the Earth Federation is deployed. Her home is in the jungles of Southeast Asia, an area that became a war zone during the One Year War. Although she is technically a civilian, her village has been forced to turn to guerrilla warfare for self-defense and survival. She is the daughter of Baresto Rosita, the leader of this anti-Zeon resistance group, and when her father is injured, she takes command of the guerrilla fighters in his place. Despite her youth, she leads a group of rugged men and is considered a full-fledged guerrilla warrior.
Kiki has a personality that is cheerful, lively, and energetic. She is described as a tomboy who completely lacks gracefulness, which matches her appearance. However, underneath this tough exterior, she possesses a strong maternal and caring side. She is kind to the weak and shows a sensitive consideration for the pain of others, a trait likely shaped by her village's difficult circumstances. Her warm gaze toward the village children marks her as a good older sister figure to them. Kiki is strong-willed, and her father once admired her courage when she faced down a Zeon mobile suit. She is also intelligent and perceptive, as shown by her ability to see that Shiro Amada had feelings for another woman from the very beginning.
Initially, Kiki hated both the Earth Federation and the Principality of Zeon equally for continuing their troublesome war. Her motivations change after she meets Shiro Amada, the commander of the 08th MS Team. She first encounters Shiro when he stumbles upon her bathing at her favorite swimming spot, and she chases him away with her gun. Later, she and her fellow guerrillas capture Shiro, and it is Kiki who proposes forming a partnership with him after he pleads for his release. She is drawn to Shiro's straightforward nature and lack of arrogance, which she finds uncommon among soldiers. From this point on, she becomes a supporter of the 08th MS Team for his sake, acting as an intermediary between the team and the guerrillas, and helping with reconnaissance and intelligence gathering.
Kiki's role in the story is that of a local ally to the 08th MS Team. She helps them navigate the jungle environment and provides valuable support from the guerrilla network. Her key relationships are with the members of the 08th MS Team, particularly Shiro Amada, toward whom she develops a mild infatuation. She remains aware that Shiro has feelings for Aina Sahalin, an officer from the Zeon forces, and she does not confess her own feelings because she believes she is too young or not attractive enough to be in a romantic situation with him. Her relationship with her father, Baresto, is also central to her story, as she takes over his command and later grieves his death.
Kiki undergoes significant development over the course of the series. Her village is attacked by a trio of Zeon soldiers who come seeking supplies. The encounter turns violent when one of the soldiers assaults Kiki, and in the ensuing battle, all the other combatants, including her father, are killed. This traumatic event leaves Kiki broken and grief-stricken. She retires from fighting to help rebuild her village with the other survivors and says goodbye to Shiro, thanking him and his team for their help. After the war ends, Kiki refuses to accept reports that Shiro has been killed in action. She joins Michel Ninorich in a search for him, and the two eventually locate Shiro and the now-pregnant Aina Sahalin living in a log cabin deep in the mountains. While she is deeply distraught to see Shiro and Aina together, she is ultimately happy to see him alive.
In terms of abilities, Kiki is a capable guerrilla fighter who participates in the resistance primarily through reconnaissance and intelligence gathering. Her young age and youthful appearance often lead enemy soldiers to assume she is not a threat, an advantage she frequently uses to her benefit. She is a skilled leader, able to command a group of adult guerrilla fighters despite being a teenager. In the novelization of the story, a much darker version of events exists where Kiki is captured by Federation soldiers, which stands in stark contrast to her fate in the animated version.
