Description
Naong is the Korean name for the Pokémon Meowth, specifically the Meowth that is a member of Team Rocket in the Pokémon anime. This character began as a stray Meowth in the Kanto region who taught himself to speak human language after falling in love with a female Meowth named Meowzie, hoping to impress her. When his efforts were rejected, he joined forces with Jessie and James, two other Team Rocket members, and has since served as their loyal accomplice and strategist. Naong’s personality is marked by ambition, cunning, and a flair for elaborate schemes, often aimed at stealing other trainers’ Pokémon—particularly Ash Ketchum’s Pikachu—to advance Team Rocket’s goals. Despite his frequent failures and comedic defeats, he shows deep loyalty to his partners and occasionally reveals a more vulnerable or compassionate side, sometimes aiding the main characters when circumstances demand it. His role in the story is that of a recurring comic antagonist, but he also provides insight into Team Rocket’s inner workings and occasionally drives episodes focused on his backstory or personal growth. Over the course of the series, Naong develops a nuanced relationship with Pikachu and Ash, shifting from pure rivalry to reluctant respect. Key relationships include his close partnership with Jessie and James, with whom he shares a familial bond, and his ongoing conflict with Ash’s group. Notable abilities include his capacity to speak human language fluently, a rare skill among Pokémon, which he uses to communicate, negotiate, and deceive. In battle, he employs moves such as Fury Swipes, Scratch, and Pay Day, and he often demonstrates resourcefulness and quick thinking in tight situations.
