Description
Ignis is a demon warrior from the Fire Fury tribe and serves as a high-ranking executive under the queen of the Devil World, Rain Devilla. He appears in the narrative following the defeat of a previous executive, Sandra. A being of immense pride, he refers to himself with the grandiose first-person pronoun "wagahai" and styles himself as the noble scion or "prince" of the demon realm. His primary objective is to locate and eliminate the Love Angels, who stand as the greatest threat to Rain Devilla's plans.
Rather than operating directly in the human world, Ignis prefers to work from the shadows by possessing a human host. He chooses a boy named Takuro, a kind-hearted but insecure and physically weak student. Recognizing Takuro's deep-seated feelings of inadequacy and his desire for social acceptance, Ignis masterfully exploits these vulnerabilities. He offers Takuro a contract: in exchange for borrowing Takuro's body as a vessel, Ignis will grant him enhanced physical prowess and talents, turning him into a star athlete and artist. This arrangement is solidified with a magical bracelet, the symbol of their pact, which binds them together.
While Takuro acts as his eyes and ears among the students, Ignis creates monsters called Ranpo to physically attack the Love Angels. He also dispatches other demons, such as the kiss-stealing Casanovi, to carry out his strategies. As a Fire Fury warrior, Ignis wields potent flame-based attacks. He can enlarge his body to unleash more powerful fire, and he possesses a technique known as the Seal of Flame, which uses fire to draw a six-pointed star that creates a barrier meant to seal an angel's power. Though he can inhabit a human, he cannot read their mind. Instead, his methodology reflects a core essence of devils: he manipulates human emotions, shaking their hearts and exploiting their weaknesses to get what he wants.
Ignis's personality is defined by a sharp conflict between his inherent demonic pride and his unexpected experiences in the human world. He begins as a cunning and ruthless strategist, but prolonged proximity to his host, Takuro, triggers a slow, subtle transformation. Takuro's sincere, earnest, and forgiving nature inadvertently softens Ignis's cruel edges. This development is not portrayed as a sudden conversion but as a gradual erosion of his demonic identity, causing him to become less effective as a warrior of evil. His growing affection and trust for Takuro become his greatest point of internal weakness.
This change does not go unnoticed, and it becomes the central cause of his downfall. The demon Potamos, a water-user who is deeply devoted to Ignis, arrives in the human world. Initially an admirer, she grows increasingly frustrated and horrified by what she perceives as his loss of cruelty and pride as a demon. She believes he has turned into a weakling, corrupted by his bond with a human. Acting on Rain Devilla's instructions or her own despair, Potamos ultimately betrays him, stabbing him in the back with a blade. Fatally wounded, Ignis does not use his final moments for revenge. Instead, he returns to Takuro's side. He removes the contract bracelet from Takuro's wrist, freeing him from their pact. In his last moments, he speaks honestly about his changed feelings before succumbing to his injuries and vanishing from existence. The impact he leaves is profound, as a grieving Takuro later chooses to wear the bracelet again of his own free will, using its lingering power to help the Love Angels when they are in danger.
