Description
Kaho Mizuki is the daughter of the priest who manages the Tsukimine Shrine, where she also lives and works as a shrine maiden. She first appears as a mysterious substitute mathematics teacher at Tomoeda Elementary School, taking over the class of Sakura Kinomoto and Syaoran Li. Her birthday is February 11. She was born in Japan but later moves to England for a period of study before returning to Tomoeda.

In terms of personality, Kaho is consistently portrayed as kind, warm, serene, patient, and effortlessly elegant. She possesses a calm and level-headed demeanor that immediately draws Sakura to her. However, this gentle exterior masks an enigmatic and deeply perceptive nature. Syaoran Li, sensing her powerful magic, is immediately suspicious and distrustful of her. Kaho is extraordinarily wise, often observing situations quietly and subtly intervening with cryptic advice or aid when Sakura and her friends face a particularly difficult Clow Card. She holds a strong belief in fate and destiny and famously remarks that there are no coincidences in the world, only inevitability. Despite her composed and mysterious aura, she has some endearing quirks, including a terrible sense of direction and an inability to cook. Her hobbies include collecting antiques and going for walks, and her favorite food is anything alcoholic.

Kaho's primary motivation is tied to a long-standing mission given by the sorcerer Clow Reed. Her family shrine has safeguarded the Moon Bell, a mystical artifact created by Clow, for generations. She returns to Tomoeda and takes the teaching position specifically to watch over Sakura and ensure she is prepared for the Final Judgment, a trial to determine the true master of the Clow Cards. Her role is not to interfere directly but to provide Sakura with the means to succeed when the time is right, using the Moon Bell to grant her a second chance to defeat the guardian Yue without harming him.

Her relationships with the main cast are significant and layered. She shares a complex history with Sakura's older brother, Touya Kinomoto. They were in a romantic relationship when Touya was in junior high school and Kaho was his student teacher. She ended the relationship a year later to study abroad, prophetically telling him that when they met again, they would each love someone else, which proves to be true. Upon her return, she treats him affectionately but more like a dear friend or a younger brother. Her relationship with Sakura is one of a trusted, almost revered mentor. Sakura is in awe of her beauty and kindness, looking up to her as a role model and feeling a sense of happiness and daze in her presence. Kaho has total faith in Sakura and offers her guidance, eventually facilitating her transformation into the true Cardcaptor. With Syaoran, her dynamic is initially tense due to his suspicion, but she responds to his wariness with bemused smiles and kindness. Her most significant relationship in the latter part of the story is with Eriol Hiiragizawa, the reincarnation of Clow Reed. She met him while studying in England, sensed his true identity, and later becomes his companion and lover.

Kaho's role in the story is crucial as a guiding figure and a catalyst for Sakura's growth. She is the keeper of the Moon Bell, which is essential for Sakura to win the Final Judgment and create her own magical staff, the Star Staff. After fulfilling this duty, she returns to England. She maintains an exchange of cryptic but helpful letters with Sakura during the subsequent Sakura Card arc. Her development is subtle, transitioning from a mysterious stranger with an unclear agenda to a trusted ally who reveals her deep connection to Clow Reed and her role in the magical world's succession. Her character arc concludes with her finding personal happiness with Eriol, having successfully completed her appointed task.

Kaho possesses notable magical abilities. Her power is moon-based and considered exceptionally strong, leading Cerberus to initially mistake her for Yue, the moon guardian. She is highly skilled in archery, excellent at suppressing her magical presence to move undetected, and possesses a strong sense of clairvoyance. She has demonstrated resistance to several Clow Cards' effects, such as the Sleep and Freeze cards, and the ability to pierce the protections of the Return card, a feat only Clow Reed himself was said to be capable of. Her primary artifact is the Moon Bell, which she can use to break through magical barriers, such as the walls of the Maze card, and ultimately to give Sakura the power to overcome the Final Judgment.
