TV-Series
Description
Kamy is a mermaid from Fishman Island in the Ryugu Kingdom, specifically a kissing gourami mermaid. She has light green short hair and a peach-colored tail fin, which indicates she is under thirty years old as her tail has not yet split into two legs. Her height is approximately 197 centimeters, and she first appears in the series as an employee at Hatchan’s takoyaki stand before later working as a waitress at the Mermaid Cafe.

In terms of personality, Kamy is exceptionally kind-hearted, friendly, and takes care of others, but her most defining trait is her extreme naivety and gullibility. She is very trusting of strangers, which frequently leads her into dangerous situations, having been captured by criminals or swallowed by sea monsters on dozens of occasions. Kamy is also easily shocked, responding with a distinctive and exaggerated facial expression where her eyes bulge out and her tongue sticks out in a zigzag shape. She has a unique verbal tic of adding the suffix chin to the names of people she feels close to, such as calling Luffy Luffy-chin or using the equivalent phrasing of OO亲.

Kamy dreams of becoming a famous fashion designer and is both the pet and apprentice of Pappug, a starfish who runs the Criminal brand clothing line. Despite being technically the owner of Pappug, she studies under him to learn the craft of design, paying for her lessons with clams. Her central motivation throughout the story is one of basic survival and loyalty to her friends, often relying on others to rescue her from predicaments while doing her best to help those she cares about in return.

Within the overarching story, Kamy serves as a crucial narrative bridge that connects the Straw Hat crew to the Sabaody Archipelago and Fishman Island. After being rescued by the crew from a sea monster, she leads them to Hatchan and subsequently to the archipelago in search of a ship coater. Her role becomes critically important when she is kidnapped by human traffickers and nearly sold to a Celestial Dragon at the Human Auction House. This event triggers a major incident where Monkey D. Luffy punches the Celestial Dragon, leading to an Admiral being summoned and ultimately forcing the Straw Hat crew to separate for two years. In the later Fishman Island arc, she repays the crew by saving several members from drowning and acting as their guide the underwater island, helping them navigate the local politics and reach the Sea Forest.

Kamy shares key relationships with several characters. She has a very close friendship with Hatchan, the octopus fishman, who has repeatedly saved her from danger, leading to a deep bond of trust and gratitude between them. Her relationship with Pappug is unique as she is both his caretaker and his student, and they are almost always seen together. She also forms a positive relationship with the Straw Hat Pirates, particularly the cook Sanji, though she remains innocently unaware of his dramatic reactions to mermaids. Conversely, she has a consistently antagonistic relationship with the Macro Pirates, who have attempted to capture and sell her on numerous occasions.

Across the series, Kamy shows subtle but noticeable development. Initially a simple waitress who constantly needs rescuing, she demonstrates greater independence and maturity two years later. By then, she supports herself without needing constant protection from Hatchan or Pappug, working steadily at the Mermaid Cafe and guiding the Straw Hats with more confidence and responsibility.

Kamy possesses several notable abilities inherent to her race. She is an exceptionally fast and agile swimmer, capable of moving through the water at speeds greater than flying fish. She also has the unique ability to communicate with all kinds of fish using inaudible sound waves, which allows her to ask them for directions or information. However, like all mermaids, she is vulnerable on land and cannot move as easily out of the water.
