Description
Pekoms is a lion mink and a combatant of the Big Mom Pirates. He is partnered with Baron Tamago, and the pair is responsible for collecting the monthly candy tribute from Fish-Man Island in exchange for Big Mom's protection. Before joining Big Mom's crew, Pekoms sailed as a member of the Nox Pirates under the leadership of Pedro, and he was once known as a delinquent on his home island of Zou. He carries a bounty of 330 million berries.
In appearance, Pekoms resembles a humanoid lion with an afro-like mane, beady eyes, and large paws for hands. He typically wears a pink suit, black sunglasses, a silver earring, and high-heeled boots, and he carries a sword at his hip. His beady eyes, revealed when he lifts his sunglasses, often make him appear cute rather than intimidating. Like other minks, he has a speech quirk tied to his animal nature, ending many of his sentences with a roar.
Personality-wise, Pekoms has a short temper and can be fierce and grumpy, but he genuinely cares for the people close to him. He is deeply afraid of Big Mom, to the point of hesitating to answer her calls, yet he was willing to beg for Pedro's life when Big Mom threatened to take it. He has a strong sense of duty and refused to join Capone Bege's scheme to assassinate Big Mom. He also has an attachment to his homeland, and when he learned that the Straw Hats had saved the Mink Tribe from Jack, he offered to let them go and was willing to lie to Big Mom on their behalf. He has a fondness for chocolate and a practical view of combat, noting that possessing a Logia-type Devil Fruit does not make a fighter invincible.
Pekoms's role in the story centers on his position within the Big Mom Pirates and his connection to the Straw Hats. During the events on Zou and the Whole Cake Island arc, he moved from being an enforcer for Big Mom to an ally of the Straw Hats. After Pedro sacrificed himself for the crew, Pekoms betrayed the Big Mom Pirates to help Luffy escape Totto Land. He captured his own crewmate Charlotte Brûlée, used her to distract Big Mom's forces, and was brutally punished for his betrayal. Capone Bege ambushed and shot him, and Pekoms fell into the water, but he later expressed his intention to settle the score with Bege. In the anime, his distraction also showcased his Sulong form, though he was ultimately overwhelmed and defeated by Charlotte Oven.
