Description
Zala, better known by her alias Miss Doublefinger, is a former high-ranking officer agent in the criminal organization Baroque Works, where she held the position of second highest ranking female operative. She was partnered with Mr. 1 and served directly under the organization's leader, Mr. 0, also known as Crocodile. Her codename, Miss Doublefinger, refers to New Year's Day (January 1), as each female officer agent is named after a holiday; Eiichiro Oda has explained that the name derives from his habit of using both index fingers to represent the date 1/1. During her undercover assignment in Alabasta, she operated a cafe called Spiders Cafe under the alias Paula. Miss Doublefinger is a professional and capable criminal who approaches her missions with efficiency and competence, showing little personal emotion or complex motivation beyond carrying out her duties for Baroque Works. Her straightforward and disciplined personality makes her a reliable agent, but she lacks a detailed backstory or sympathetic depth. In the Alabasta arc, she serves as a supporting antagonist, confronting the Straw Hat Pirates and engaging in direct combat with Nami. Her primary ability comes from the Toge Toge no Mi, a Paramecia-type Devil Fruit that allows her to generate razor-sharp spines from any part of her body, which she uses both offensively as projectiles and defensively as armor. This power, combined with her physical conditioning, makes her a mid-tier threat. Her defeat at the hands of Nami marks the end of her role in the story, and she does not appear in later arcs, indicating limited narrative development beyond her function as an obstacle to the protagonists. Her relationship with Mr. 1 exemplifies the professional partnership typical of Baroque Works officer agents, working in coordinated pairs to achieve organizational goals.
