Description
Hody Jones is a great white shark fish-man who serves as the main antagonist of the Fish-Man Island arc. He is the captain of the New Fish-Man Pirates, a group formed after the defeat of the Arlong Pirates, whose ideology he claims to have inherited.

Hody was born and raised in the Fish-Man District of Fish-Man Island, a lawless area where hatred for humans was a pervasive and inherited belief. Unlike many of his predecessors who suffered direct persecution from humans, Hody himself never experienced a personal trauma at the hands of them. Instead, his deep-seated racism is a product of his environment, cultivated by the stories and teachings of those around him who fostered a generational grudge. He was a soldier in the Neptune Army of the Ryugu Kingdom, not out of loyalty, but to learn combat skills. During this time, he witnessed the young Princess Shirahoshi's mysterious power to summon Sea Kings, a sight that instilled in him a deep fear and a desire to eliminate her as a threat.

Hody's personality is defined by an extreme, irrational, and fanatical hatred of humans. He is a self-proclaimed fish-man supremacist who believes his race is superior and destined to rule over humanity. His cruelty is notable not only for its intensity but for its emptiness. When questioned by Prince Fukaboshi about what exactly humans had done to him personally, Hody's infamous response is that they did nothing, a statement that underscores his role as the embodiment of hollow, inherited prejudice. Unlike his idol Arlong, who, despite his hatred, valued his crewmates and had a pragmatic, if exploitative, approach to dealing with humans, Hody is utterly cold and ruthless. He has no qualms about using his own subordinates as shields, murdering any fish-man who shows sympathy towards humans, and even sacrificing his entire army of 100,000 soldiers without a second thought to achieve his goals. He is also cunning and manipulative, having orchestrated the assassination of the beloved Queen Otohime, who sought peace with humans, and framing a human for the murder to sabotage her efforts. His distinctive laugh is "Jahahahaha!".

Hody's primary motivation is not to improve the lives of fish-men but to ensure that the cycle of hatred against humans never ends. He fears the day when animosity between the two races fades, believing that fish-men would lose their sense of identity and purpose. To this end, he plans to take over the Ryugu Kingdom, use the Queen's collected signatures as a list of "traitors" to execute, and attend the World Summit of Kings in order to slaughter the world's human leaders, sparking a full-scale war. To achieve this, he allied with Vander Decken IX, a human pirate who was the captain of the Flying Pirates and who possessed the power of the Mark-Mark Fruit. Decken's obsessive love for Princess Shirahoshi made him a useful pawn for Hody's plan to assassinate her from a distance.

In terms of abilities, Hody possesses the natural attributes of a fish-man, including superhuman strength, speed, and the ability to breathe underwater. He is a practitioner of Fish-Man Karate and Fish-Man Jiu-Jitsu, techniques that allow him to manipulate water for attacks such as Water Shot, which fires a condensed bullet of water, and Sea Drums, which creates a powerful shockwave. He also has considerable marksmanship skill, demonstrated by his long-range sniper shot that killed Queen Otohime. His primary weapon is a curved blade worn on his dorsal fin called Shark Slicer, which he uses for devastating slashing attacks in the water.

Hody's most defining trait is his reliance on a forbidden drug called Energy Steroid. This drug grants a massive, temporary power increase but at a severe cost: it rapidly ages the user, shortening their lifespan. Hody and his crew abuse these pills liberally, and Hody himself overdoses multiple times during his battle with Luffy. The cumulative effect causes a drastic physical transformation, turning his skin and hair white and bulging his muscles to monstrous proportions. Despite these enhancements, his technique is considered crude, and he compensates for his lack of refined skill with raw, artificial power.

During the climax of the Fish-Man Island arc, Hody is confronted by Monkey D. Luffy. In their battle, Luffy demonstrates the immense gap in their power, notably using Haoshoku Haki to knock out half of Hody's 100,000-man army. Luffy ultimately defeats Hody on the deck of the giant ship Noah, using his Elephant Gatling attack. After his defeat, the side effects of the Energy Steroid finally catch up with Hody. He and his officers are shown to have aged into weak, withered, and elderly fish-men, barely able to stand. Even in this decrepit state, however, Hody continues to cling to his unwavering hatred, showing no remorse and remaining a prisoner, a frail but still bitter monument to the futility of baseless bigotry.
