Description
Don Segundo, whose real name is Bentham and is also known by his Baroque Works code name Mr. 2 Bon Kure, is a memorable character from the One Piece series who undergoes a significant transformation from adversary to cherished ally. He is an okama, a term that in Japanese culture refers to a cross-dresser or a flamboyant, gender-nonconforming individual, and he embraces this identity with immense pride and joy.

Bentham has a tall and muscular physique, which is somewhat hidden beneath his flamboyant choice of clothing. His typical outfit includes a pink overcoat and blue medieval-style dancer's attire, complemented by heavy facial makeup and a distinctive, wide grin. Most iconic are the two swan decorations on his shoulders, which are shaped to resemble the number two, his agent number, and can be detached and used as weapons.

The most striking aspect of Bentham is his personality. He is ostentatious, loud, and theatrical, with a constant inclination to sing, dance, and recite poetic sentiments. Despite his villainous profession as an assassin for the criminal organization Baroque Works, he places the value of friendship above all else. This creed, which he refers to as the okama way, dictates that abandoning a companion is the greatest shame. He is incredibly selfless and righteous, often acting on deep emotion and loyalty. He has a distinctive way of speaking, often finishing his sentences with a feminine verbal tic and using French counting in his attacks.

Bentham's journey begins as a loyal officer agent for the crime lord Crocodile. However, after accidentally befriending Monkey D. Luffy and his crew, he finds himself torn between his duty and his new friendships. When the Straw Hat Pirates are escaping the Alabasta Kingdom, Bentham makes the first of his great sacrifices, disguising himself and his men as the crew to divert the Marines, leading to his own capture. This act cements his deep bond with Luffy, who affectionately calls him Bon-chan.

His role in the story reaches its emotional peak during the Impel Down arc. Imprisoned in the great underwater prison, Bentham reunites with Luffy, who has infiltrated the prison to rescue his brother, Ace. Without hesitation, Bentham joins Luffy on his suicidal mission, fighting alongside him through multiple hellish levels. He is instrumental in helping Luffy survive the deadly frozen wasteland of Level 5 and in locating the ruler of Newkama Land, Emporio Ivankov, to save Luffy from a lethal poison. In the climax of the escape, Bentham stays behind to use his Devil Fruit powers to impersonate the prison warden, Magellan. He commands the guards to open the Gates of Justice, allowing Luffy and the other prisoners to escape to Marineford. Facing certain death against the warden, Bentham declares he has no regrets, having followed his heart and his code of friendship.

His key relationships are defined by this unwavering loyalty. His bond with Monkey D. Luffy is one of the purest friendships in the series, built on mutual respect and sacrifice. He holds a deep admiration for Emporio Ivankov, the self-proclaimed Queen of the Kamabakka Kingdom and a legendary okama. Conversely, he has a notable rivalry with the cold and lethal Daz Bones, Mr. 1, as their flamboyant and stoic personalities clash constantly. After the time skip, it is revealed that Bentham survived his sacrifice and was named the new queen of Newkama Land, the secret okama paradise hidden within Impel Down, demonstrating his growth from a comical enemy to a respected leader.

As a fighter, Bentham is a master of Okama Kenpo, a unique martial arts style that blends powerful kicks and acrobatic maneuvers with graceful ballet movements. He is a formidable combatant, capable of matching the strength of Sanji, one of the Straw Hats' strongest fighters. His primary asset, however, is his Devil Fruit, the Mane Mane no Mi. This Paramecia-type fruit allows him to transform into a perfect physical replica of any person he has ever touched with his right hand, copying their face, voice, and body shape. This power makes him an unparalleled master of disguise and deception, which he uses for infiltration, espionage, and psychological warfare. When he places his iron-tipped swans on his shoes, his kicks become as powerful as rifle shots with extended range, adding to his offensive capabilities.
