Description
Margaret of the Kuja Pirates is a warrior from the all-female Kuja tribe who lives on the secluded island of Amazon Lily. She is one of the more prominent members of the tribe and later officially joins the Kuja Pirates under Captain Boa Hancock. Margaret has short, blonde hair, a tall and slender figure, and a gentle yet fierce demeanor. She was raised in a society that strictly forbids the presence of men and had never seen a male before the arrival of Monkey D. Luffy.

Her background is rooted in the strict traditions of Amazon Lily, where strength, discipline, and loyalty to the empress are the highest values. Margaret is a highly skilled archer and a proficient user of Busoshoku Haki, or Armament Haki, which she channels into her arrows to make them capable of piercing armor and harming Devil Fruit users. Her primary weapon is a living snake named Ran, whose body can stiffen into a bow or be used as a staff in close combat. This versatility makes her a formidable opponent in both ranged and close-quarters fighting.

Personality wise, Margaret is kind, curious, and possesses a strong moral compass. While she initially follows the customs of her tribe, she is also open minded and willing to question traditions when she sees injustice. Her honesty and sincerity are so striking that even the proud Boa Hancock comes to respect her. Margaret shows great compassion when she discovers Luffy alone and injured in the jungle. Despite the law that forbids harboring men, she secretly nurses him back to health, which later leads to her being accused of breaking the sacred rules. When Hancock orders the execution of Luffy and turns Margaret and two other warriors into stone for defending him, Margaret does not waver. She risks her life by pleading for Luffy’s innocence, demonstrating her unwavering loyalty and belief in doing what is right.

Margaret’s motivations are driven by a deep sense of protectiveness toward her home and her friends, as well as a growing understanding of the wider world. Her initial distrust of outsiders gives way to genuine affection and admiration for Luffy, whose selfless nature and strength inspire her. She sews a new outfit for Luffy as a gesture of friendship, which symbolizes her acceptance of him despite cultural barriers. Over time, her role transitions from a guardian of tradition to a bridge between the isolated Amazon Lily and the outside world. She becomes a loyal ally of the Straw Hat Pirates and a trusted friend to Luffy.

In the story, Margaret first appears during the Amazon Lily arc. She is among the warriors who capture Luffy, but her kind heart leads her to protect him instead. Later, after Boa Hancock falls in love with Luffy and the Kuja tribe allies with him, Margaret continues to support Luffy’s journey. During the two-year timeskip, she becomes a full member of the Kuja Pirates and participates in the defense of Amazon Lily and other operations. She also appears in later story segments, such as the events surrounding the Marineford war aftermath and the Reverie arc, where she remains a steadfast companion to Hancock and a guardian of her island.

Her key relationships include her comrades within the Kuja tribe, such as the warriors Sweet Pea and Kikyo, with whom she shares a deep sisterly bond. She respects and admires Boa Hancock for her strength and leadership, and after Luffy’s influence, Hancock also learns to trust Margaret’s judgment. Most importantly, Margaret’s bond with Luffy is pivotal; she is one of the first Kuja to treat him with genuine kindness and to defend him at great personal risk. This friendship cements the lasting alliance between the Straw Hats and the Kuja Pirates. Margaret undergoes significant development from a wary, tradition-bound warrior into a courageous individual who prioritizes compassion and justice over blind adherence to rules. Her notable abilities include her expert archery, mastery of Armament Haki, and her dynamic combat style using her serpent companion. She is also skilled in sewing and has a gentle, maternal side that contrasts with her warrior upbringing.
