Description
Bentham, known by his alias Mr. 2 Bon Clay, is a former officer agent of the criminal organization Baroque Works. He is an okama, a term used in Japanese for someone who challenges traditional gender norms, and his appearance is highly flamboyant, featuring heavy makeup, ballet costumes, and swan-shaped accessories. He first appears as a major antagonist during the Arabasta Arc, serving under the organization's leader, Crocodile. His personality is vibrant, theatrical, and deeply emotional, often expressing himself through song and dance. Despite his initial role as an enemy, he is guided by a strong sense of loyalty and friendship, which becomes his primary motivation. After being defeated by Sanji in combat, he is moved by the Straw Hat Pirates' sincerity and helps them escape from Arabasta, marking the beginning of his transformation from foe to trusted ally. His most defining relationships are with Monkey D. Luffy, whom he considers a dear friend, and Sanji, whom he respects as a fighter after their battle. His development is most notable during the Impel Down Arc, where he reunites with Luffy and sacrifices his own freedom multiple times to ensure Luffy's escape, ultimately staying behind in the prison and later becoming the queen of Newkama Land on Level 5.5. He possesses the power of the Mane Mane no Mi, a Paramecia-type Devil Fruit that allows him to perfectly copy the appearance, voice, and even some memories of anyone whose face he has touched with his right hand. This ability makes him an exceptional infiltrator and spy. In combat, he uses a unique martial art called Okama Kenpo, which combines ballet movements with powerful kicks, including techniques such as the Explosive Swan and Memoirs of That Summer. His agility and flexibility give him an edge in battle, and he is capable of holding his own against strong opponents. Over the course of the story, Mr. 2 evolves from a calculating agent into one of the most selfless and loyal characters, exemplifying themes of acceptance and authenticity.
