Description
Inazuma, also known by the epithet “Lightning” or the nickname “Little Crab” given by Monkey D. Luffy, is a notable figure within the revolutionary army who first appears during the Impel Down breakout arc. Hailing from the South Blue, Inazuma stands at an impressive 228 centimeters and has a birthday on August 3rd. The most striking aspect of Inazuma’s identity is their existence as a “new human” or okama, a member of a gender-transcending people. This trait is made physically apparent by their ability to switch between male and female forms, a change facilitated by the hormones of their leader, Emporio Ivankov. In their male form, Inazuma is characterized by a more angular jaw, a visible scar running from forehead to eye, and a serious demeanor, while the female form features softer, rounder facial features and a warmer disposition. Both forms share the same distinctive half-orange, half-white hair and matching bi-colored clothing, and they are never seen without a wine glass in hand.
The personality of Inazuma is distinctly dual-layered and directly tied to their current gender expression. As a man, Inazuma is the epitome of calm, level-headed composure, appearing almost emotionless and strictly businesslike during operations. This serious nature makes them an effective executor of plans who rarely shows panic, except during moments of extreme crisis, such as when believing Ivankov had been defeated by the Warden Magellan. In contrast, as a woman, Inazuma becomes warm, cheerful, and elegantly graceful, a stark departure from the flamboyant and exaggerated mannerisms typical of many other okama characters in the series. Despite these contrasting outward personalities, a core trait remains constant: an unwavering and absolute loyalty to Ivankov. Inazuma rarely acts without an order and serves as a devoted subordinate, perfectly complementing Ivankov’s more explosive and theatrical nature.
Within the revolutionary army, Inazuma holds the rank of deputy commander of the G Army, directly serving under the commander, Emporio Ivankov, to whom they are the right hand and closest confidant. Their backstory reveals they were once a revolutionary imprisoned in the brutal Level 5 of Impel Down. There, they were rescued by Ivankov and helped carve out the secret refuge of Level 5.5, Newkama Land. Their most prominent role in the main story begins when they assist Luffy during the prison break. After witnessing Luffy’s willpower firsthand, Inazuma helps bring the unconscious pirate to Ivankov for life-saving treatment. During the ensuing chaos, Inazuma uses their abilities to facilitate the escape, cutting through floors to block sleeping gas and opening locked cells. In a desperate last stand, Inazuma stays behind with Ivankov to face the deadly Magellan, sacrificing their own safety and suffering severe poisoning to buy time for Luffy to advance.
Inazuma’s contributions reach their peak during the Summit War of Marineford. Still recovering from their injuries, Inazuma hides within the enormous afro of Ivankov to be smuggled into the battlefield. At the climax of the war, with Luffy desperate to reach the execution platform, Inazuma emerges and demonstrates the full potential of their power. Using their Devil Fruit ability, they slice through the solid stone ground, bending and shaping the material like paper to construct a makeshift bridge directly to the platform. This act is the crucial turning point that allows Luffy to make his final approach to the imprisoned Ace. Following this, Inazuma stands guard alongside Ivankov, protecting the bridge and helping Luffy escape. Though ultimately defeated by the Admiral Akainu during the retreat, Inazuma survives the war.
Regarding abilities, Inazuma is a paramecia-type Devil Fruit user who has eaten the Choki Choki no Mi, or Scissors-Scissors Fruit. This power transforms the user into a “Scissor Human,” allowing them to turn any part of their body into a blade. The primary strength of this fruit is the ability to cut through virtually any solid object as if it were a sheet of paper, regardless of its hardness or density. Inazuma wields this power with masterful precision, able to slice through thick stone walls and steel bars one moment, then delicately hold a wine glass without breaking it the next. Once an object is cut, Inazuma can manipulate the severed pieces with the flexibility of fabric, allowing for tactical maneuvers such as redirecting debris or creating structures like the bridge at Marineford. Apart from their Devil Fruit, Inazuma is also a proficient physical combatant.
Throughout the narrative, Inazuma shows a distinct development from a prisoner to a key player on the world stage, though their fundamental role remains an unwavering support for the revolutionary cause. Events following the time skip show Inazuma has safely returned to the revolutionary army. After the destruction of the headquarters at Baltigo, Inazuma is seen relocated with the rest of the high command to the Kamabakka Kingdom. At the revolutionary council table before the World Meeting, Inazuma sits faithfully beside Ivankov, confirming their continued status as an integral and high-ranking member of the organization tasked with shouldering the next generation of the revolutionary army.
