Description
Nefertari Vivi, also known under the codename Miss Wednesday, is the princess of the Alabasta Kingdom. She first appears as an antagonist within the criminal organization Baroque Works, but her true identity is that of a determined young royal who infiltrated the group to expose its plans to take over her country. Vivi is defined by her bravery, kindness, and unwavering sense of justice. She possesses a deep love for her homeland and its people, and she is willing to risk her life to protect them. Her primary motivation is to uncover the truth behind the civil unrest in Alabasta and to stop the organization's leader, Crocodile, from plunging the kingdom into war. She carries her royal duties with seriousness but also demonstrates genuine warmth, emotional openness, and a capacity for spontaneous joy with those she trusts. A recurring expression of her frustration is the phrase I will never forgive you.

Vivi's role in the story is central to the Alabasta saga. Initially introduced as a minor agent, she was originally conceived as a lesser member of Baroque Works, but the creator decided to develop her into the princess of the kingdom, which led to the entire story arc. She travels with the Straw Hat Pirates after revealing her true identity and pleading for their help, becoming a close ally and de facto member of the crew during their journey through the Grand Line. Even after she chooses to remain in her kingdom to fulfill her duties as heir, her bond with the crew remains intact, and her silhouette appears on their wanted posters, symbolizing her permanent status as an eternal friend. She later reemerges in the Reverie arc as a participant in the global summit of monarchs, and she appears again during the Egghead arc, demonstrating that her connection to the Straw Hats persists across physical separation.

Key relationships include her father, King Cobra, who raised her with a model of accountability and service, and who was later assassinated during the Reverie. Her childhood friend Kohza was a member of the Sand-Sand Band with her and later became the leader of the rebel army before becoming the kingdom's Minister of the Environment after the conflict. Igaram, the captain of the royal guard, infiltrated Baroque Works alongside her to protect her and is deeply devoted to her wellbeing. She shares a profound and lasting bond with the Straw Hat Pirates, particularly with Luffy, Nami, and Sanji, who treat her as an equal rather than as a princess needing protection. Her loyal duck companion Karoo is a super fast-running duck who accompanies her throughout her journey. Her primary antagonist is Crocodile, the leader of Baroque Works and a former Warlord of the Sea, who manipulated her kingdom into civil war.

Vivi's development in the story is significant. She begins as a sheltered princess who takes independent, dangerous action to protect her kingdom, infiltrating a criminal network at great personal risk. Through her journey with the Straw Hats, she transforms from an isolated operative into a capable teammate and a more confident leader. She learns to trust others, to accept help, and to navigate complex political situations. A pivotal moment comes when she must choose between joining the Straw Hats as a permanent member and staying with her people, and she makes the mature decision to choose her duty to her kingdom. Later storylines show her growth into genuine political power and influence, and her participation in the Reverie and Egghead arcs demonstrates her continued relevance and the persistence of her bonds.

Notable abilities include her combat skills with the Peacock Slashers, blades attached to thin threads that are controlled by rings on her little fingers and are usually concealed within her sleeves. She uses techniques such as Charming Memai Dance, which involves wearing clothes with black and white circles to hypnotize opponents by swaying her body, and Peacock Chain Circle, where she spins and throws the blades to attack over long distances. She also possesses strong diplomatic skills, infiltration and espionage abilities, leadership capacity suitable for her role as future queen, and minor combat training gained from her time with the Straw Hats. She does not have Devil Fruit powers and relies on her intelligence, bravery, and resourcefulness rather than supernatural strength.
