Description
Nico Robin, also known by her alias Miss All-Sunday, is the archaeologist of the Straw Hat Pirates. She was born on the island of Ohara in the West Blue, a place renowned for its scholars and vast library. Her mother, Nico Olvia, left her at a young age to pursue research into the world's forbidden history, and Robin was raised by an aunt and uncle who treated her harshly. She displayed exceptional intelligence from childhood, becoming a certified archaeologist at the age of eight and secretly learning to read the ancient stone tablets known as Poneglyphs, a skill considered a crime by the World Government. When the government discovered Ohara's research into the Void Century, they unleashed a Buster Call that destroyed the island and killed nearly all its inhabitants, including Robin's mother and her mentor, Professor Clover. Robin escaped with the help of the giant Jaguar D. Saul, who sacrificed himself to save her. She then spent twenty years as a fugitive, constantly on the run and trusted no one.

During those years, Robin survived by using her intellect and her Devil Fruit abilities. She joined the criminal organization Baroque Works under the codename Miss All-Sunday, serving as the vice president and partner of the warlord Crocodile. Her goal was to use Crocodile's resources to find a Poneglyph that would lead her to the ancient weapon Pluton, but she also intended to betray him when convenient. She first encountered the Straw Hat Pirates in Whisky Peak and later in Alabasta. After Crocodile betrayed her, Luffy saved her life, and she decided to join the crew, becoming the seventh member.

Robin's personality is initially reserved, calculating, and emotionally guarded. She tends to observe situations from a distance before acting. Over time, as she bonds with the Straw Hats, she becomes more open and expressive, though she retains a macabre sense of humor and a fascination with dark or morbid topics, which often disturbs her crewmates. She is deeply intelligent, calm under pressure, and fiercely loyal to those she considers family. Her central motivation is to uncover the true history of the world by reading the Rio Poneglyph, a goal inherited from her mother and her teacher. This desire drives her actions and makes her a key figure in the overarching narrative.

Her role within the story is multifaceted. As the only known living person who can decipher Poneglyphs, she is essential to the Straw Hats' journey toward the final island, Laugh Tale. She is also a combatant, using her Devil Fruit powers for offense, defense, and support. Her relationships with the crew are transformative: she forms a particularly close bond with Luffy, whose unwavering trust and willingness to protect her convince her that she has a right to live. The climax of the Enies Lobby arc marks a turning point, where Robin openly declares her desire to live and Luffy declares war on the World Government for her sake. She also develops meaningful friendships with other members, especially Chopper and Franky, and later befriends the Revolutionary Army, for whom she occasionally acts as a liaison.

Notable abilities include the Hana Hana no Mi (Flower-Flower Fruit), a Paramecia-type Devil Fruit that allows her to sprout duplicates of any part of her body from any surface within range. She can create multiple limbs, eyes, ears, and even full-body clones, and can use these to attack, restrain, support allies, scout, or create structures like staircases or bridges. Her combat techniques often involve quick, precise strikes that can break bones or disarm opponents. She also possesses extensive knowledge of history, archaeology, and languages, and is a skilled strategist.

Throughout the series, Robin undergoes significant development. She evolves from a cynical survivor who expects betrayal to a trusting and emotionally open member of the crew. Her initial bounty of 79,000,000 berries increased over time to 130,000,000 after the Enies Lobby incident, and later to 930,000,000 following the Raid on Onigashima, reflecting her growing reputation and the threat she poses to the World Government. She is a tall, slender woman with black hair and a distinctive long nose, and her design was inspired by Mia Wallace from the film Pulp Fiction. After a two-year timeskip, she appears with longer hair and a lighter complexion, adopting a more mature appearance.
