Description
Diamante is a fictional character and a major antagonist from a long-running manga and anime series. He serves as one of the three top officers of a pirate crew led by a former king, holding the position of an elite executive and leading his own combat-focused subdivision known as his namesake army. He is also the former proprietor of a large fighting arena, where he earned the epithet "Hero of the Colosseum".

Before becoming a pirate, Diamante endured a very poor childhood, finding comfort in wearing a pirate outfit and dreaming of becoming a champion. At the age of fourteen, he and three other youths witnessed a young man with immense innate power and swore their loyalty to him, forming the core of what would become a powerful pirate crew. Over the years, this group grew into a formidable organization, and Diamante took on the responsibility of teaching swordsmanship to a young boy who briefly joined the crew after being taken in. Approximately a decade before the main events, he was part of the operation that overthrew a kingdom, and during this takeover, he personally shot and killed a princess as she was attempting to secure food.

Diamante's personality is marked by several distinct and contradictory traits. He possesses a peculiar habit regarding praise; he will initially deny any compliment offered to him, but if the person stops praising him, he will then proudly accept it as an unbiased and truthful assessment. He holds his own title and reputation in extremely high regard, frequently boasting about his achievements. However, this vanity is paired with a deep and genuine cruelty. He is callous and insensitive, showing no remorse for his violent actions and even taking joy in revealing his crimes to his victims' families. He bluntly admits to murder and mocks the resulting sorrow of his opponents, including a young woman whose mother he killed and the woman's father. Despite this viciousness towards outsiders, Diamante demonstrates a fierce loyalty and protectiveness toward his own crew, whom he considers his family. He becomes visibly angered by anyone who mocks his comrades and has no tolerance for disrespect toward his captain.

His primary motivation stems from his absolute loyalty to the captain he has followed since childhood. He is driven to fulfill his captain's orders and maintain the family's dominance. He also seems motivated by a desire for recognition and glory as a fighter, seeking to cement his legacy as a legendary colosseum champion. In the story, he plays a pivotal role by being entrusted with a valuable and powerful fruit, which his captain uses as a prize to lure a notorious pirate crew into a trap. He participates in the tournament meant to decide the fruit's winner, personally overseeing the final rounds and confronting the participants. Later, he actively hunts down a young gladiator, specifically targeting her due to her connection to the kingdom's rightful royal family.

Diamante's key relationships are defined by his long history within his crew. His connection to his captain is one of the utmost respect and unwavering faith in the captain's power. He also shares a long-standing, thirty-year bond with two other elite officers; they function well as a team, though he can show irritation when they fail in their duties. In a twisted reflection of his loyalty, he holds intense contempt for former crew members who betrayed the family. His most significant adversarial relationship is with a former champion soldier. This soldier's wife was the princess Diamante killed, making their conflict deeply personal and rooted in vengeance. Diamante also has a particularly cruel dynamic with the soldier's daughter; he mocks her weakness, taunts her with the memory of her mother's death, and openly tries to kill her, causing her to freeze in fear before eventually igniting her rage.

In terms of development, Diamante is a static character who does not undergo a significant moral change. He remains a cruel and loyal executive from his introduction to his defeat. That defeat, however, serves as his ultimate narrative development. After a fierce battle with the vengeful soldier whose wife he killed, Diamante is finally cut down. As he falls unconscious, his head strikes the grave marker of the woman he murdered, a final piece of poetic justice that marks the end of his role as a primary threat. After his captain is ultimately defeated, Diamante is arrested by the Marines along with the rest of his crew.

Diamante is a formidable combatant and one of the strongest members of his crew, trusted by his captain to face multiple powerful opponents simultaneously. He possesses the ability to use two forms of Haki, a power that grants enhanced perception and the ability to strike logia users. His main strength comes from a Devil Fruit that allows him to turn any object he touches into a thin, flexible, cloth-like material while still retaining its original properties like hardness or weight. This has a wide range of applications. He wears a cape made of steel that is both lightweight and incredibly durable. He can turn the ground into fluttering waves, causing opponents to lose their balance. He can also turn his own sword into a flexible serpent-like whip that hardens at the moment of impact for unpredictable strikes, or reform it into a bludgeon with a bull-shaped head. He is a skilled swordsman in his own right, capable of launching powerful air slashes without using his Devil Fruit powers. One of his most devastating techniques involves firing party streamers into the air that transform into a rain of spiked iron balls, creating a nearly unavoidable hail of projectiles.
