Description
Chakka, also known as Chakka the Jackal, is a character from the Arabasta Kingdom, where he serves as one of the kingdom’s two primary guardians alongside his comrade, Pell. He holds the rank of护卫队副官, often serving as the acting captain of the royal guard in the absence of his superior, Igaram. Chakka stands at an imposing 213 centimeters tall and his birthday is April 26th. His visual design and thematic role are inspired by the ancient Egyptian god Anubis, the jackal-headed deity associated with the afterlife and protection.
Chakka is defined by a serious, strict, and unwavering dedication to the Nefertari royal family. He is a paragon of loyalty and duty, prepared to sacrifice his life for his king and princess. This devotion is paired with a strong sense of responsibility and a pragmatic, if sometimes worried, demeanor when leading the kingdom's forces. Despite his stern exterior, he harbors deep care for his closest allies, particularly his dear friend and counterpart, Pell. When angered by cruelty or injustice, such as during the crisis orchestrated by the Warlord Crocodile, Chakka can act on his emotions, but this is always in service of a greater goal, such as protecting others and buying precious time for his comrades.
Chakka’s role in the story is rooted in the defense of Arabasta. During the civil war fomented by Crocodile, he is tasked with organizing the royal army against the advancing rebels. Upon discovering that Crocodile is the true mastermind behind the kingdom’s suffering, Chakka confronts the Warlord directly. Driven by fury at Crocodile’s callous manipulation of his countrymen, Chakka attacks him to protect Princess Vivi and the rebel leader, Koza, but is swiftly and easily defeated, though he survives the encounter. After the conflict, he is briefly seen mourning at the grave he believes to be Pell’s. Later, at the end of the Enies Lobby arc, Chakka is among those surprised and concerned to learn that Nico Robin has joined the Straw Hat Pirates, viewing her with understandable suspicion.
His character continues to develop beyond the Arabasta arc, appearing again as a royal escort during the World Conference, known as the Levely. He accompanies King Nefertari Cobra to the holy land of Mary Geoise, expressing concern for the ailing king’s health. Chakka and Pell escort Cobra to the meeting with the Five Elders but are forced to wait outside due to the secretive nature of the audience. Following the king’s death during that meeting, Chakka displays his characteristic fierce loyalty by angrily confronting the guards of Pangaea Castle, demanding to know the fate of his monarch. He later returns to Arabasta to help lead the kingdom in mourning and is present for Dr. Vegapunk’s global message regarding the truth of the world.
Chakka’s notable abilities stem from his consumption of the Inu Inu no Mi, Model: Jackal, a Zoan-type Devil Fruit that allows him to transform into a full jackal or a human-jackal hybrid. This transformation grants him immense speed, increased physical strength, and enhanced senses suited for the desert environment. He combines his animalistic power with swordsmanship, employing a technique where he holds his sword in his jaws to charge at opponents, a move known as Narikiba. While a formidable warrior, his encounter with Crocodile demonstrates his limitations against the strongest pirates of the world.
