Description
Karasu is a significant character in the revolutionary army, serving as the commander of its North Army. Originating from the North Blue, he is a tall, muscular, and notably bald man, standing at 265 centimeters. His most distinctive feature is the metallic, beak-shaped mask he wears over his lower face, which functions as a loudspeaker and gives him a crow-like appearance, complementing his dark, open feather coat and black trousers.

Despite his formidable presence, Karasu speaks with an extremely quiet voice, to the point of being nearly inaudible. He relies on his loudspeaker mask to communicate with others, and he has a notable sensitivity about this trait, becoming visibly enraged with bulging veins on his forehead whenever someone mentions or complains about his low volume. He can also be somewhat forgetful, occasionally neglecting to turn on his speaker, which results in him mumbling unintelligibly. Beneath this quiet and sometimes intimidating exterior, Karasu is an honorable individual who holds a deep disdain for those who prey on the weak, readily stepping in to defend ordinary citizens from oppression.

As the North Army commander, Karasu holds a position of significant authority within the revolutionary army, with a bounty of 400,000,000 berries reflecting his threat to the World Government. His combat prowess is greatly enhanced by his Devil Fruit, the Soot-Soot Fruit, a Logia-type ability that transforms him into a coal-based elemental being. He wields this power with great creativity, most often converting his body into a swarm of sentient, communicating crows. These crows can be used for a variety of purposes, from high-speed flight and discreet transport of individuals to disarming entire groups of enemies by stealing their weapons and delivering devastating aerial assaults. He has also demonstrated the ability to shape his soot into large, sharp blades that emerge from the ground to impale opponents.

Karasu shares a strong working relationship with his fellow army commanders, including Belo Betty, Morley, and the scientist Lindbergh, who sometimes has to remind him to turn on his speaker. He also has a close, trust-based relationship with the revolutionaries' chief of staff, Sabo, whom he personally retrieved from Dressrosa following a mission. Karasu has implicit faith in Sabo, believing in his survival even when communication is lost. His key role in the story emerged during the Levely arc, where he and his comrades infiltrated the Holy Land of Mary Geoise. Their mission was a multi-pronged assault to declare war on the Celestial Dragons and rescue their enslaved former comrade, Bartholomew Kuma. During this operation, Karasu engaged in direct combat with the powerful Admiral Fujitora. Looking down on those who attack the weak, he also took the time to liberate slaves and guide them to safety, showcasing his honorable nature even in the midst of a high-stakes battle against the World Government.
