Description
Marianne, better known by her codename Miss Goldenweek, is a former officer agent of the criminal organization Baroque Works. She serves as the partner of Mr. 3, a wax sculptor, and the two work closely together during the Little Garden arc. Marianne is a small, youthful-looking girl with red hair and a relaxed, unhurried demeanor. She dislikes work and is frequently seen snacking on rice crackers or enjoying tea. Despite her laid-back attitude, she takes her missions seriously and shows genuine concern for her colleagues, which becomes especially evident after the fall of Baroque Works.
Her primary motivation within the organization is not personal ambition but rather a sense of duty and camaraderie. She does not seek power, wealth, or status; instead, she appears content to follow orders and support her partner. Later, her motivation shifts toward freedom and the pursuit of her own artistic aspirations.
Marianne plays a supporting role as an antagonist in the Little Garden story, where she assists Mr. 3 in capturing the Straw Hat Pirates. Her most notable contribution is using her Color Trap technique to immobilize Monkey D. Luffy, preventing him from interfering. Though she is ultimately defeated by the duck Karoo, she escapes unharmed. After Baroque Works is dismantled, she becomes the central figure in a cover story titled Operation: Meet Baroque Works, in which she leads Mr. 5 and Miss Valentine on a mission to rescue their imprisoned comrades from a Marine base. This arc highlights her leadership, loyalty, and resourcefulness. In the aftermath, she finds a peaceful life working as a painter at the New Spiders Cafe, alongside many former Baroque Works agents.
Her closest relationship is with Mr. 3, with whom she shares a strong professional bond. They complement each other's abilities: she colors his wax creations, and their teamwork makes them a dangerous pair. She also interacts with Mr. 5 and Miss Valentine during the rescue operation, and shows a fondness for her former co-workers in general.
Marianne does not possess a Devil Fruit power. Instead, she uses a unique technique called Color Trap, which allows her to hypnotize people by painting colored symbols on them or their surroundings. Each color produces a distinct emotional or behavioral effect. For example, yellow forces uncontrollable laughter; blue induces deep sadness; red compels the target to attack a specific red object like a bull; green calms them into a state of relaxation; and black triggers betrayal or defiance. She can also create a rainbow effect that transforms those who see it into dream versions of themselves, as depicted in the cover story. Her abilities are not based on magic but on a combination of artistic skill and psychological suggestion, functioning similarly to hypnosis.
Over the course of her appearance, Marianne develops from a minor villain into a character who prioritizes her friends and her passion for painting. Her ultimate fate is a quiet, contented life as an artist, free from the conflicts of her past.
