Description
Rayneshia El-Arte Cowen, also spelled Rayneshia or Reinesia, belongs to the prestigious Cowen family, the second-most influential aristocratic house in Yamato and the leading dukedom within the Eastal League of Free Cities. She is the granddaughter of Duke Sergiad of Maihama, the second daughter of Phenel and Saraliya, the older sister of Iselus, and had an older sister named Risselthea disgraced after eloping with a low-born knight. This family scandal placed significant social pressure on Rayneshia to uphold the family's reputation through impeccable conduct and political marriages.

Rayneshia possesses a dual nature shaped by her noble upbringing. Publicly, she embodies the ideal princess: elegant, soft-spoken, and meticulously well-mannered, constantly aware of her actions reflecting on her family. Privately, however, she is inherently lazy, carefree, and unmotivated, preferring days spent in comfortable pajamas, eating and sleeping over responsibilities. This contrast stems from intense societal pressure eroding her self-confidence and fostering a desire to avoid decision-making. She initially viewed Adventurers as exhausting enigmas, finding her carefully crafted social facade ineffective against their directness and indifference to status.

Her development began during the Conference of the Lords arc when she met Krusty, an Adventurer who saw through her facade. Though initially resentful of his perceptiveness, she grew to admire the freedom Adventurers enjoyed. This culminated during the Return of the Goblin King arc; frustrated by noble inaction, she defied her family and traveled to Akiba to plead for Adventurer assistance. Witnessing their competence and egalitarianism shattered her preconceptions about social hierarchies and marked her first step toward self-determination.

As punishment for acting independently, Rayneshia was appointed Ambassadress of the Eastal League to Akiba. Though initially believing this role would allow her to laze about, she became overwhelmed mediating between guilds and Landers. During the Fallen Guardian arc, she faced moral dilemmas when a rogue Royal Guard threatened Akiba. Hesitant to disable the city's protective magic circuits due to the consequences, she faced criticism for naivete and reluctance to collaborate. With guidance from Adventurers like Rieze, she eventually took decisive action to deactivate the circuits, accepting the repercussions for the city's safety.

A pivotal moment occurred when her mother, Saraliya, pressured her into an engagement with Touri Saiguu, heir to the influential Saiguu family, to repair the family's reputation after her sister’s elopement and rumors about Raynesia’s association with Adventurers. Distressed and wishing for Krusty’s guidance, Raynesia received a message from him via Rieze and Misa: "If you're not upset when something is taken away, it couldn’t have been yours from the start." This prompted her realization of her attachment to life in Akiba and the Round Table’s ideals. Wearing her Round Table uniform, she publicly rejected Touri’s proposal at Akiba Station, symbolizing her allegiance to the Adventurers and catalyzing a political crisis.

To resolve the ensuing conflict between Eins’s ducal faction and the Round Table, Shiroe proposed a general election. Raynesia formally severed ties with the Cowen family to stand as the New Round Table Council’s candidate, using her mother’s own teachings about regret to justify her independence. Despite trailing in polls due to noble disapproval of her rejection of Touri, she campaigned on a vision of Akiba as a "city of blessings and dreams." On election day, the reactivation of transport gates brought an influx of voters from Susukino, and her inclusion of Landers like Regan and Kinjō in her proposed government demonstrated her commitment to unity. Her victory solidified her transformation from a passive noble to an independent leader.

Her relationships are central to her growth. She relies on her maid, Elissa, for emotional support and practical guidance. Krusty serves as a catalyst for her authenticity, seeing through her facades and challenging her passivity. She admires Adventurers like Rieze for their competence and resolve. Her friction with her mother, Saraliya, highlights her struggle against aristocratic constraints. Her journey reflects a shift from seeking validation through duty to embracing self-defined purpose within Akiba’s evolving society.
