TV-Series
Description
Carne is a supporting character in the One Piece series, known for his role as a veteran chef and fighter at the floating restaurant Baratie. He is a man of average height with a sturdy build, brown hair, and a perpetually unshaven face. His most defining visual traits are his dark, round sunglasses and the standard white chef’s uniform, which includes a chef’s hat and an apron. Following the two-year timeskip, his appearance changes slightly; he grows out his hair and a goatee, wears a larger chef’s hat, and adds a striped ascot to his attire.

Carne’s background is that of an experienced culinary professional who worked his way through more than three hundred restaurants before finally settling at the Baratie. He is one of the most senior members of the restaurant’s staff, having been hired alongside his frequent partner, Patty, after the owner, Zeff, put out an advertisement for cooks. Prior to joining the Baratie, his past as a "凶恶海贼" (ferocious pirate) is noted, and his violent tendencies made it difficult for him to stay in other establishments. He found acceptance at the Baratie, which allowed him to act on his rough impulses, and this acceptance fostered a deep sense of loyalty to the restaurant.

Personality-wise, Carne is gruff, hot-tempered, and immensely proud of the Baratie. He strongly identifies as a fighting chef, meaning he takes his role as a protector of the floating restaurant as seriously as his culinary duties. He often acts rude and antagonistic towards his colleague Sanji, frequently engaging in arguments and conflict with him, even derisively referring to him and Patty as an incompetent "gangster duo". Despite this outward hostility, Carne genuinely cares for Sanji and the well-being of the Baratie as a whole. This hidden but genuine affection becomes most apparent during emotional moments, such as when Sanji departs to join the Straw Hat Pirates.

Carne’s primary role in the story occurs during the Baratie Arc. When Don Krieg and his pirate crew attack the restaurant in an attempt to seize it, Carne becomes essential in its defense. He fights valiantly alongside the other chefs to repel the invaders, demonstrating his loyalty to Zeff and his home. Following the arc, he continues to appear in minor capacities, serving as a representation of the Baratie crew that Sanji left behind. His most notable post-arc appearance is when he and Patty react to Sanji's first wanted poster, which features a crudely drawn, comical sketch. They laugh uproariously at the image, showing their amusement and continued bond with their former comrade.

In terms of development, Carne’s role within the Baratie evolves over the course of the series. Initially introduced as one of several unnamed extra chefs, his consistent presence and interaction with main characters led to him becoming a named character with a distinct personality and history. After the two-year timeskip, he is promoted to the manager of a new teppanyaki ship attached to the Baratie called the Nasugasira. This ship is humorously designed to look like the ugly sketch from Sanji’s first wanted poster. When Sanji later receives a new, properly proportioned photograph on his wanted poster, Carne becomes annoyed at the prospect of having to remodel the ship, a comedic reflection of his continued connection to Sanji’s journey.

Carne’s key relationships are primarily with his fellow chefs. He has a very close, long-standing partnership with Patty, with the two being known as the "gangster duo" for their shared combative and rough-and-tumble attitudes. Together, they often act as a pair, bickering with Sanji and fighting side-by-side. His relationship with Sanji is central to his character; it is a rivalry built on mutual disrespect on the surface, but it is undercut by a deep respect and familial bond. He also holds clear loyalty to Zeff, the owner, who gave him a place to belong when no other restaurant would tolerate his behavior.

Regarding his abilities, Carne is both a skilled chef and a capable fighter. His culinary specialty is meat dishes, a fact reflected in his name, which is the Spanish word for meat. As a fighter, he employs the Baratie's signature style of a fighting chef, using his cooking utensils as weapons. His primary armament is a large, extended knife, which he wields with enough proficiency to easily deal with small-time pirates. While he is strong enough to defeat ordinary opponents, he is outmatched by more powerful foes, such as Pearl, one of Don Krieg's commanders.
