Description
Orson is a warrior in the anime adaptations of Record of Lodoss War, appearing in the original OVA and in the television series Chronicles of the Heroic Knight. He is an adult man with shoulder-length brown hair and green eyes. Originally a country boy, his life changed when goblins destroyed his home village and killed his sister. The trauma of witnessing this drove him to become a berserker, and he came to be possessed by Hyuri, a spirit of war and rage. The red jewel set in his sword and the matching jewel on his brooch mark him as a man bound to this spirit.
In personality, Orson is quiet and taciturn, especially in contrast to his partner Shiris, and he rarely speaks at length. When he does speak, however, his observations tend to be sharp and to the point. He is not driven by cruelty or malice; the violence that surrounds him comes from the rage that possesses him. His greatest motivation is the protection of Shiris, whom he secretly loves. Because of his berserker condition, he is unable to bring himself to admit his feelings to her. His rage is triggered when she is in mortal danger, and she is the only person who is able to bring him back from his berserker state.
In the story, Orson and Shiris become companions of Parn and his group, joining them during the ongoing conflicts on Lodoss. His reputation as a berserker is so widely known that his presence alone is enough to force dark elves to retreat. He later takes part in the assault on the great dragon alongside King Kashue, fighting with the Holy Lances of Myree and helping bring Fire Dragon Mountain down. When the sky darkens with signs of approaching danger, he senses the threat and follows it together with Shiris, finding Parn in terrible condition. He is also among the first to understand Parn's worry for Deedlit, and he suggests that while Parn heads to Marmo, he and Shiris will ride out to rally the other kingdoms of Lodoss to arms.
