Description
Eto is a central character who begins his journey as a priest of the god Falis and ultimately rises to become the Holy King of Valis, later abdicating to serve as the religion’s highest religious authority. Orphaned at a young age, he was born and raised in the village of Zaxon, where he formed an inseparable childhood bond with the headstrong warrior Parn. At the age of fifteen, Eto left his home to train at a temple of Falis in the capital city of Alan. This training lasted for four years, and after completing it, he returned to Zaxon as a novice priest ready to gain real-world experience. His reunion with Parn coincided with a goblin attack on their village, which served as the catalyst for the two friends to join a wider party of adventurers and set out across the island of Lodoss.

In terms of personality, Eto is defined by his gentle, kind, and devoted nature. While he lacks the commanding presence of a warrior king or the fiery ambition of a hero, his demeanor is described as serene and reassuring, with a voice that brings comfort to those around him. He is earnest and serious about his religious duties, yet remains a friendly and helpful companion. These traits make him a natural healer and moral anchor for his party, though his pacifistic temperament does not mean he is a passive figure. Despite being averse to conflict, he demonstrates a quiet resolve and a clear understanding of his personal responsibilities and the sacrifices that come with them.

Throughout the narrative, Eto's primary motivation evolves significantly. Initially, he is driven by a desire to support his friend Parn, to learn more about the world, and to serve his god by healing the wounded and combating evil. As the story progresses and the Kingdom of Valis is left devastated by the death of its king, Eto takes on a larger purpose. He does not continue wandering with Parn but instead returns to the holy city of Roid to help the grieving Princess Fianna. There, his dedication shifts from simple adventure to the immense task of national and religious reconstruction. His role transforms from a supporting cleric into a key political and spiritual leader, motivated by a profound sense of duty to restore order and faith to a crumbling kingdom.

His key relationships are central to his arc. The most enduring is his friendship with Parn, which forms the initial emotional core of the group. He also develops a crucial relationship with Princess Fianna. After he returns to comfort her following her father’s death, the two fall in love. Their marriage is a pivotal event, as it directly leads to his ascension to the throne of Valis, a move that broke with tradition since kings were typically chosen from the knighthood, not the clergy. Politically, he works closely with the high priest Jenat to reform the often-corrupt Falis church, positioning himself as the successor to Jenat’s reformist legacy.

Eto undergoes one of the most dramatic character developments in the series, moving from a humble village priest to a ruler known as the priest-king. His early days as king were difficult, as he was an outsider to the traditional power structures of Valis. However, through consistent effort, unwavering integrity, and a commitment to rebuilding his nation, he ultimately earned the trust of his people and became known as a wise and just monarch. His leadership was put to the test during the邪神战争, where he deployed the powerful "Crusade" spell to rally his nation against the dark island of Marmo and personally led his forces in battle. In a final act of development, following the end of the last great war, Eto voluntarily abdicated the throne, allowing a new king from the holy knights to take his place while he returned to his original calling as the High Priest of the Falis order.

As for his abilities, Eto is first and foremost an exceptionally powerful cleric. His faith in Falis is incredibly strong, granting him the ability to perform miraculous healings, blessing spells, and even resist the powerful curses of dark priests, a feat that few others could accomplish. While not a frontline warrior, he is also a capable fighter, demonstrating proficiency with a combat staff to defend himself when necessary. Beyond his spiritual and combat skills, his most notable abilities are political and administrative. He proved to be a brilliant reformer and a steady leader who successfully navigated the treacherous transition from a knight-dominated kingdom to a stable monarchy led by a priest, ensuring the survival and prosperity of Valis during a time of great crisis.
