Description
Ling-ling Li is a Chinese woman around twenty-eight years old with black hair and brown eyes, standing roughly five feet six inches. She works as the assistant editor for Yougekisha, an occult magazine publishing company based in Hong Kong. Her early life is something she rarely discusses, even with close friends, but she grew up on the dangerous streets of Hong Kong. That upbringing taught her the importance of true friends, money, and self-defense. She is a trained practitioner of Wing Chun Kung Fu and is also proficient with handguns, rifles, and other weapons, as well as lockpicking, disguise, and first aid. She is nearsighted and wears glasses, and she is a heavy smoker. Her primary motivation is financial gain; at the start of the story she does not believe in ghosts, demons, or the supernatural, and she has no qualms about fabricating sensational stories with doctored photos for the magazine, topics ranging from UFOs to Elvis sightings. Her attitude changes when she accepts a well-paid exorcism job at the home of Mrs. Huang Song Lii. The job turns into a genuine encounter with the supernatural alongside Yakumo Fujii and Pai, forcing her to reassess her worldview. Ling-ling adapts quickly and pragmatically, deciding to use her new experiences to expand Yougekisha into a legitimate exorcism business, while still publishing the usual sensationalist content alongside real articles and photographs of demons. She becomes a useful ally to Yakumo and Pai, providing logistical support and martial assistance when needed. Over time she develops a stronger sense of loyalty to her friends, though her money-driven nature remains a prominent trait. Her curiosity as a reporter and her practical skills make her a capable supporting figure in the series.
