Description
King Piccolo, also known as Piccolo Daimao, is a major antagonist introduced in the original Dragon Ball series. He is the evil counterpart of Kami, the Earth's guardian, as the two were originally a single being. Centuries before the main events of the story, this nameless Namekian sought to become the guardian of Earth. To achieve this, he was forced to purge the evil from within himself, a process which resulted in the creation of two separate entities: the pure being who would become known as Kami, and the concentrated evil known as King Piccolo. Because they were once one, their lives are linked; if one perishes, so does the other.
King Piccolo is depicted as a tall, aged, and menacing figure with green skin, pointed ears, and sharp fangs. He typically wears a dark martial arts uniform with a black robe and a red cape, which bears his own unique kanji, a deliberate contrast to the symbol worn by his good counterpart, Kami. In his initial appearance, he is physically old and his full power is diminished by his age. He was finally opposed by Master Mutaito, who sacrificed his life to seal the demon king away in an electronic rice cooker using the Evil Containment Wave. For generations, the rice cooker lay at the bottom of the ocean, and King Piccolo faded into myth. He is released from his prison by the bumbling Emperor Pilaf. Upon his return, his first acts are to spawn sons like Tambourine and Cymbal to hunt down martial artists and gather the Dragon Balls. His murder of Krillin is the event that first drives Goku to seek revenge. King Piccolo easily defeats the young Goku and kills Master Roshi after a failed attempt to re-seal him. After regaining his youth, he is eventually confronted by a powered-up Goku. In a fierce final battle, Goku manages to punch a hole through the demon king's chest. As he dies, King Piccolo uses the last of his strength to spit out an egg containing his final son and reincarnation, Piccolo Jr., commanding him to avenge his death and destroy Goku.
