Description
Nene Romanova is the youngest member of the Knight Sabers, typically portrayed as an eighteen- or nineteen-year-old girl who serves as the team’s hacker, technical conductor, and communications expert. She was born to well-off but overly strict parents, and her dislike of their control led her to run away from home. Exceptionally bright, she quickly grew bored with her all-girl high school and found an outlet in the digital realm, teaching herself advanced programming and hacking skills. She later falsified her official records to appear older and secured a job as a data entry clerk and computer operator within the AD Police, where she also works as a video expert in the Intelligence Management Center. This position allows her to act as a mole for the Knight Sabers, feeding them sensitive information. Her recruitment into the group came after she successfully decrypted a heavily encrypted want ad posted online by Sylia Stingray, proving her abilities and earning her a place as the final member of the team.

Nene’s personality is bubbly, naive, and open, with a fondness for candy and junk food. She is intelligent and resourceful but often innocent and silly, and she tends to romanticize her work with the Knight Sabers, viewing it as an adventure rather than a grim necessity. Unlike the other members, she is not driven by revenge or trauma; her motivation is the intellectual challenge and the chance to test her skills. She deeply wants to be accepted as an equal by her teammates, though her lack of physical conditioning and combat ability makes her the weakest fighter in the group. Priss and Linna often tease her for being slow and physically fragile, while her lingering respect for the AD Police occasionally causes friction with Priss, who holds a grudge against law enforcement.

Among the Knight Sabers, Nene is primarily responsible for electronic warfare, reconnaissance, and intelligence gathering. She is a master hacker capable of cracking tough security systems and writing viruses and spy programs. Her hardsuit is designed for support rather than direct combat, equipped with advanced communication and sensory systems. Her original suit’s laser gun is too weak to be a practical weapon and is often used only to leave the team’s calling card at battle sites. Later, she receives an upgraded pink or red hardsuit that greatly improves her offensive options, adding an electromagnetic pulse striker and the ability to physically interface with and hack a boomer’s computer brain. Over the course of the series and its sequel, Bubblegum Crash, she becomes more capable in the field, though her primary strength remains behind the keyboard rather than on the front lines.
